I don’t even know where to begin. My month in Haiti was filled with so many great people and places, I know I won’t be able to fit them all into this blog post… But I’ll do my best! I cried when I had to leave Haiti. I’m already planning to go back.

We spent the month living at and working with MISSION OF HOPE(MOH), which is a GREAT organization that is determined to reach every man, woman and child in Haiti with the Gospel and love of Jesus. They do AMAZING work in the villages and I seriously can’t say enough good things about them.

In all that they do, they strive to help Haitians assist fellow Haitians and so everything that’s done is done via a “Village Champion” who is someone well respected in their village. Village Champions are the face associated with help and assistance, and us North Americans get to come alongside them and help minister to their village. It’s so awesome to see all of this come together whether it be thru MOH’s orhpanage, their many schools, their clinic, their prosthetics lab, their clothing line that raises funds so people receive free health care, or the way they love and serve us missionaries who come alongside them. It’s all just so so wonderful. I have never sponsored a child before and I am 100% certain that when I get back to the USA, I’ll be sponsoring a child at MOH. If you’re also interested in doing something like that, please visit their website for more info: www.mohhaiti.org

Ok, so now to the question I know you’re all wondering: What did I do all month?! Well, here’s a run-down of the ministry i did in Haiti:
STRATEGIC VILLAGE TIME

MOH strives to meet the needs of the community both spiritually and physically. So, we were commissioned to go out into the villages and talk to families about health and hygiene. I got to teach lil kids how to wash their hands and brush their teeth, and talk to people who were ill to help them get care. It was awesome and I goto to spend countless hours with real Haitian families and enjoy their hospitality.
VILLAGE TIME

We got to visit families in the village without any specific agenda other than getting to know them, serve them(by getting drinking water, doing laundry, playing with kids) and pray/worship with them. This was AWESOME!!!

KID’S CLUB
On most afternoons you could find me in a field or dirt lot or a playground covered in children. This was one of the biggest and best ministries we did; just being able to play with kids who don’t usually get a lot of attention is wonderful for both the kid and for me! They taught me Creole, I taught them English, we would just play and laugh and exchange smiles and it was wonderful. Duck-Duck-Goose is a favorite for Haitian kiddos 🙂
HOUSE PAINTING
We had the opportunity to paint houses for people who were finally getting homes since the earthquake. It was a great experience and even though it was a bit difficult due to the weather and extreme winds/dust, it was definitely a favorite ministry for many people, including me.

DAY CAMP
In Haiti, Mardi Gras is called Carnival, and there’s no school during that week and no businesses open on that day or on Ash Wednesday. So, my entire Squad put on a camp for all of the orphans who live at Mission of Hope. It was great!! I got to just play with kids and paint faces and dance and I also got to sing worship and just encourage them to be leaders and strive for a positive future.
