One of the most common questions I get about my decision to do World Race is:
“What made you want to do it?”
The easy, simplistic answer: God made me wanna do it.

But the better answer is:
What made me want to do it was the call and purpose that God put on my life all those years ago as He knit me together inside my mother’s womb. I just didn’t really pick up on it til I was in my 20s…. and then it still took about 6 years for it to sink into my thick skull.
As I was trying to figure out how to transition from a secular life as a teacher to a more Kingdom-driven life as someone in full-time ministry, I was REALLY confused. But I was sure of one thing: God gave me my adventurous, gypsy spirit and He didn’t just give it to me for no reason.
So during a season of prayer and really reading the Word so that I could better hear from Him, He pierced my heart with Matthew 10:39. It says,
“If you cling to your life, you will lost it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
I had such clarity after reading that Scripture. I knew that I had to make a change, make a shift. Give up what I thought were “my plans” and get into His plans.
Long story short, I had been following my friend Liz’s World Race adventure but never really LEARNED about what it was or what exactly she was doing. And it was there, in the middle of the night on my crappy Dell laptop that I saw the video below. I was like “YES. YES. YESSSS!!!! This is what I’ve been losing sleep over! This is what I’ve been thinking and feeling but couldn’t articulate! I’m ready for something so much BIGGER than me or my plans for myself!”
I learned EVERYTHING I could learn about World Race (i.e. I obsessed over their website for weeks) and every time I prayed, every time I read the Word and wrote in my journal Matthew 10:39 was there, staring me in the face, telling me what I already knew: I had to give up my plans. I had to give up all my material things that were distracting me from my life’s purpose. I had to do the World Race.
So I applied and the rest is history. Watch the video below that was the confirmation I needed to really know that World Race was for me!
