Bring in awe of something is pretty astounding, right?

It’s not something that you experience a whole lot throughout your life.

I have always heard of people talking about being in awe of God and everything He has done for them and I’ve never really understood it until now.

I’ve had a pretty good life. I’ve always had not only the things that I’ve needed but the things that I have wanted. Really, I’ve never been without. I’ve never had to worry about where I was going to live, what I was going to eat, or if I had a job or not. Everything has been handed to me all throughout my life.

So, in that sense I’ve never been in awe of God.

Something I’ve learned this month is being in awe of God is not only being cared for and having the things you need be provided to you.

It is so much more.

This month, Team Blessed Longing is doing ATL/UHC.

ATL- Ask the Lord

This month we don’t have a set contact to work with. At the beginning of the month we were given a start point and started looking for ministries and churches to be involved with and serve with, and from there we had to freedom to go where we felt God calling us.

UHC- Unsung Heroes Campaign

This is something we are also working on this month. UHC is a month of finding new potential contacts for The World Race. It’s those we find doing God’s work and might not have the help that they need. It’s our job to find those people and come alongside them in the work they are doing.

(If you want to read about what all has happened here, go read my team mate, Julie’s, blog)

We had been at the hostel about a week.

We were contacting ministries and working around the hostel.

We had given ourselves a 5 night limit at the hostel. So the final night came and we still had no place to go the next morning. The night before, we had met a local missionary that someone connected us with from the states, and they had invited us to a young adults group that night. So we decided to, not wanting to mention that we needed a place to stay, but hopeful that we could find somewhere. Anywhere.

As the night went along we had many conversations and at one point I looked over at Abby who looked like she was going to explode. She leaned over and said, “Raymond, that guy over there, is a church elder and he’s making some calls to find us a place to live.”

Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to happen. No one wants to take in 6 young adults that they don’t even know. In my mind, there was no way that we were going to find a place to stay.

A couple minutes later, Raymond comes in and says, “Okay. I have arranged for you to stay at my place with me and my wife. You will move in tomorrow!”

Wait. What?!

Yea. This guy had felt that God was telling him to be more hospitable and to open up his home.

Then, just a couple of days later, after attending Sunday morning church, we were offered our own flat (apartment) a town over to have our own space.

Not just one.

Two.

How in the world did we in less than a week ago go from having nowhere to stay and knowing no one, to being connected with an amazing church and having our own apartment…..at no cost? God. That’s how.

Awe inspiring moment #1.

God has seriously blown my mind with how he has provided for us this month.

But God was also teaching me other ways I can be in awe of him.

Something that I’ve never felt or seen before.

Awe of his creation and of His people.

First of all, the people here have taken us everywhere.

They want us to see all the wonders of Cape Town.

And every morning I get to wake up and see the beauty of this amazing city.

The sunsets.

The mountains.

The ocean.

The people.

The culture.

And I see Jesus in all of it.

Second, Abby, Jesse and I helped lead worship at the People’s Church this past Sunday.

Now, I do this at home, but most of the time I’m so worried about how I sound and the notes that I’m singing that I forget who I’m singing too and why.

During the worship set I remember getting a feeling of comfort. I had my eyes closed and I wasn’t so worried about the notes I was singing. And then I began to listen.

I began to listen to the people in front of me.

I began to listen to a group of people raising their voices to the God they love so much.

I began to hear the voices that God so desperately loves to hear.

And I was in awe.

I was in awe of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

And it was the best sound I’ve ever heard.

God has been teaching me a lot about having eyes to see Him and ears to hear Him.

If you are always looking for Him,

If you are always keeping an ear out for him,

You’ll find him.

And you’ll always be in awe.

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart.’
