Definition (Turning a blind eye) – It means to knowingly refuse to acknowledge something which you know to be real.

While on the mission field I have noticed a lot of similarities. The similarities that I am talking about is in South Africa there where million dollar homes, and I bet you that the people who owned that house could see the 60,000 shacks out their back yard. Shacks that house 8 to 10 people in a very tiny space. I have seen some form of this in every country that I have visited, and I know I will see it at the 4 other countries yet to come.

Many people turn a blind eye to things they don’t want to see. Like a child with ripped clothes and open sores all over the body, a poor man with dirty clothes sleeping on a piece of cardboard on the side of the  road, or thousands of shacks put together by pieces of wood and cardboard. People see only what they want to see because they don’t want to deal with it- it’s too much of a hassle or they are just don’t care anymore.

There have been more and more people living on the streets, and without homes. I’m not just talking about 3rd world countries. I’m talking about the good old United States of America. It has become more common in the United States because of the rising numbers of veterans and the unemployment. People in the United States turn their heads when they see a poor person sleep in a corner of the side street, or a veteran holding up a sign asking for “food or work”. I would know because driving to my friend’s house on weekly bases I would see the same man, at the same corner, holding the same sign reading “Veteran, please help, will work for food”. I would pass him all the time, and never once had the thought of stopping or bringing him food.

Looking back I am ashamed that I did that. Now, I know I would go buy peanut butter, jelly and bread and make him some food. If I go home, with learning one thing from the race it would have to be to not turn a blind eye, to anyone.

I challenge you to not turn a blind eye when you see a poor person on the street. I challenge you to listen and hear what Gods wants you to do.
