If the race has taught me anything, its expect the unexpected. Everyday on the race is unpredictable. Ministry could turn into sitting on a stranger’s porch as they feed you the most disgusting coffee ever, with a side pineapple cookies as you try to make small talk through a huge language barrier, or it could be throwing toddlers in the air for so long you can’t feel your arms anymore. Same goes for off days, am I going to eat my weight in momos, go bungee jumping, get a $6 piercing, or lay in bed all day hoping the wifi is strong enough to stream netflix?
During the first month in Nepal, all of the girls on my squad went to remote village, only 5% of people there were christians. We spent the week proclaiming the gospel. In our time there the lame can now walk, the deaf can hear, people’s sicknesses were healed, marriages restored, and people were brought to Christ. Needless to say the village was AMAZING, and God was on fire.
The second day we got there our pastor wanted to take us to this amusement park that was a two hour hike away. Okay cool, I’m super pumped. The hike there was the most beautiful hike I have ever done. We walked through fields of flowers so breathtaking it left me in awe, along a river, and across a suspension bridge. My excitement was growing the closer we got.
We finally got there.
I didn’t know what to expect but it definitely wasn’t that.
We walked into the park. There was like 10 different cages, with a variety of animals in them. It was pretty heart breaking, except for the guinea pigs, they ran around all crazy and happy as could be. The ‘zoo’ part of the park lasted a solid ten minutes.
A group of girls and I were walking towards the other end of the park when we were pulled into a dance party. These Nepali girls were dancing hard to a Shakira song, and we happily joined them. There we were dancing with a bunch of girls we couldn’t understand, but knew they were laughing at us and our not so hot dance moves. The crowd around us was growing, and so did the number of phones video taping this crazy dance party. We laughed and danced and then the song ended and we went on our way.
The ferris wheel was next. This thing was janky. It went super fast and made a some odd noises. It made us laugh and smile from ear to ear. A major plus, it didn’t break off its track and roll away so we were all pleasantly surprised.
Lunch. Oh my. Lunch. Pastor bought us these happy fun boxes that had samosas, honey funnel cakes, pie chips, and something like cookie dough. It was so good! There we were sitting, laughing, eating, and enjoying our lunch, when at the picnic area next to us a goat arrived. If you don’t see where this is going, I’m sorry. With a swift movement of a sword, the goat soon became lunch. Screams, and some laughter filled our area. What did we just watch?
We spent the next couple hours laying on super prickly grass, and drinking Mountain Dew, then we started the hike back to our home.
The day left me laughing.
What a cool, unexpected day.
