I’m the girl who most people hate riding in a car with. I flip through multiple radio stations or switch between a hand full of songs until I find the one. The song that perfectly fits my mood. The one I deem as acceptable for that moment.
But a few minutes pass. The song ends, and I start the search all over. I search until I find one I’m happy with.

Well, here’s the thing. Since I’ve been on The Race I’ve realized just like I’m selective with my song choice, I’ve been selective with God. I picked when I wanted to be in close communication with Him. I chose the days I wanted to listen. I occasionally took time to search for Him in the everyday. I carefully selected the days I wanted to take His outstretched hand and dance. Because some days, most days, I didn’t like the song He had picked.

Most of the time, the song He has picked to dance to isn’t what I would have intended. Most of the time it’s one of those weird songs that come on shuffle. One of the ones you didn’t even knew existed, until it plays. You’re skeptical at first. The beat is a little off. The melody is different. The notes don’t always match.

Yet, while I was being selective over the song for my season, My Father was waiting for me to simply embrace the symphony He had carefully crafted.
He was waiting for me to dance in full abandonment. Letting go of the idea or novelty that I could pick a better song for us to dance to. All He wanted was for me to take His hand and spin. Laugh. Twirl. Jump. Shout. Embrace. And dance.

And when I did. When I finally released my grasp on having a hand in picking the song, I started to live in the overflow. In abundance. In the novelty of goodness and hope. His mercy began to fall like confetti at a wedding. Turning the ground my feet stepped on into a beautiful garden.

So, I want to challenge you to dance with full abandon.
Our Abba Father, Creator, Composer, Author is simply waiting for us to embrace each song He has picked for us to dance to.

Say yes and you’ll see the places where heaven sweetly kisses earth. You will be romanced. You’ll find abundant joy.

So no matter the song or the season, I hope you dance. I hope you spin and twirl and jump and shout and embrace and shake to whatever song plays. Because it’s going to be beautiful. Trust me.
