What do you get distracted by? Facebook? Television shows? Other media things? Something else?

It is so easy to get distracted these days. If you have a smart phone then you know exactly what I am talking about. You jump on Facebook for a few minutes and the next thing you know an hour has passed by and that time is lost. We get so caught up in the busyness of life that sometimes we just need to unplug for a bit.

I have the privilege of working at Cedar Campus for the summer where internet access is usually limited unless you drive to town and use the Library’s Wi-Fi.

Another reason I love working up at Cedar Campus is because our mission statement is: A place to meet God and be renewed. The first part of our camp season are student camps called Chapter Focus Weeks. A part of their schedule is to have a Retreat of Silence on Sunday afternoons. This is a 3 hour time slot where the students go off on their own to be alone with God in His creation. When you get away from all distractions, then you can truly hear God speaking and experience His peace.

Feeling spiritually drained? Feel like you’re running on fumes? Have you been feeling like God is trying to speak to you but it is hard to hear Him? Maybe because you are too distracted and aren’t giving Him enough air time. We get so caught up in the busyness of life that sometimes we just need to unplug for a bit. I challenge you to do a media fast at some point in your life if you never have (or if you need to hear from God). It is also a good habit to cultivate to do daily quiet times if you do not have an opportunity to spend a large portion of time alone with God. I encourage you to just get away from everything and spend some quality quiet time with God. When you are quiet before God then it forces you to think and He often allows you to examine your life and where you are at.

Don’t get me wrong, having a bible on your phone is awesome but flipping through the pages of an actual bible is great. Plus, when I am using my phone to read my bible, I get distracted by all the games and Facebook on my phone. Also, by using a bible app, you lose the ability to own bible sword drills because you forget where each book of the bible is located. 😉

I am definitely guilty of being distracted way too often as well. I easily waste an hour on my phone playing games and checking Facebook daily. I use these things to wind down but they aren’t always the greatest option because oftentimes it keeps my mind thinking opposed to helping me relax. Perhaps I should go back to reading before bed again.

Well friends, that’s all I have to say about that for now. If you have any thoughts or comments feel free to leave me a message. Have a blessed week!

Keep Lookin’ Up,
Misha
