I hear this everyday while I’m teaching English here in Cambodia.
Just think of the cutest kid voice you know saying “teacha, teacha” and you’ll know what they sound like. It’s hard not to smile at them whenever they say this, even if they are misbehaving at the time.
In the mornings I ride a motorbike with 3 people on it to the kindergarten ran by His Child, the ministry that we are working with this month.
Yes, you can fit 3 people on one motor bike. Sometimes 4 if one is a child + groceries.
It is a little scary riding on the bike but fun. It’s a great way to see your surroundings and learn how there are no obvious rules to Cambodian traffic.
Atnyways at the kindergarten we teach 3 – 5 year olds. Their favorite things are high-fives and holding your hand while you read a story to them. They love books about animals. The three year olds were a little afraid of us at first, but they’re starting to warm up to us.
In the afternoons I teach English again to 2 different classes. This school is also ran by His Child. It used to be their orphanage. The kids learn in a huge open space where there are three groups(classes) all learning at the same time. The conditions aren’t the best especially when it rains or when it is super hot outside.
One of the classes I teach is for 11(ish) year olds. They love asking you what something is and drawing pictures on the white board. They are so willing to learn and want to soak up every bit of English they can.
The other class I teach is for 6 year olds. They don’t know their alphabet or how to say many words in English yet. But they are so willing to participate in any task you give them. They too love writing on the board.
It’s going to be hard leaving them at the end of the month.
Living conditins here are amazing! I have to take bucket showers but I don’t mind because us girls have our own house with our own rooms! It’s weird having my own room again.
I hope this helps you understand what I’m doing this month!
I only have $943 left to raise until I’m fully funded! I can’t thank you all enough for getting me this far. I believe that I will be fully funded by the end of this month!
P.s. sorry there are no pictures. I broke my phone so I have no way of taking them. 🙁
