It's month one, week one completed and my roller coaster of emotions is still well on track. The first three days were travel days. It was craziness and let me tell you… they drive crazy here. One of the cool things though is that even though we were passing and flying by standstill traffic all the cars we passed were more than happy to help us pass and not hit an oncoming car. I'm 98% sure in America we would of been flipped off and cussed at. But those were our travel days, 8 hours in a bus for two days and a 4 hour plane ride.
I feel spoiled here because our ministry host, Toni, is American so we get some American food and our whole squad is together. This ministry is amazing. Toni's heart is for the street kids who were formerly drug addicts, from paint thinner to cocaine, is afmazing! So we get to love on these kids who have been neglected for so long. And let me tell you they are affectionate! One of them, Carlos, is always hugging and kissing and just wanting to play with everyone! It's beautiful to think that Christ saw him digging through dumpsters angry and sniffing paint thinner and then brought him to a loving environment like this.
Team ISHA has the project to sand the rust of the door to the house and sand the walls to prep both for painting, which starts for us Monday. We definitely got very dirty, more how I thought it would be on the race! My hair was no longer blond but red with rust!
I really love this place. My heart just breaks for these young men. Some of them speak English and some don't but as long as we are trying the language barrier isn't extremely rough. Hard but not a gap Christ's love can't bridge.
Thank you for your prayers and be praying for these boys!!!
