last month in Swaziland is the power of prayer. We spent most of our time at
the Remar center. There was a lot of spiritual heaviness in that place, and it
was really easy to get discouraged and not want to be there. The first couple
days were kind of rough for me. I think God allowed me to see and feel a lot of
the spiritual battles that were going on there and I would come away carrying
all that weight. After the second day Kim (the other team leader) and I were
talking about Remar and what we thought God wanted us to be doing there. We
agreed that a lot of the reason for us being there was to just pray for the
place and everyone there. I realized that the reason God was allowing me to see
all these battles that were going on there was so that I could pray
specifically for them. Every day we started praying as a group for at least a
half an hour after we got there. And then would split off into the different
things we wanted to do there. I would sometimes just spend the entire morning
walking around praying for things that God would show me. It was really cool to
see God work in and thru us in this way. The difference it made was huge.
One of the things that weighed heavy on me was the lack of
Godly influence there. Other than the director and his wife there wasn’t any
strong Christians there. So that was one of my biggest prayers the whole time
and it was really cool to see God answer that even before we left. On one of
our first days there one of the schoolteachers quit to work another job that
paid better. They were able to find a sub right away named Thembi. During our
time there we got to know her more and it was clear that she was a woman that
was walking with God. On our last day at Remar she came up to me and asked if
our team would pray for her. She said that she was offered a job at another
school that pays much better. She said that she basically could not live off of
what Remar could pay her. She said that she was torn though because she thought
God wanted her to stay there. So we prayed for her and she came to visit us at
the cowshed the next night and had dinner with us. Before she left Thembi said
that she had decided to stay at Remar and trust God for her needs. It was
really cool to see God answer my prayer for Godly people at Remar. And not only
that but God rewarded her for the trust she placed in him. A couple days before
we were given about a hundred dollars from some random people that we met that
liked what we were doing. Since we didn’t have any immediate need for the money
we decided that God was providing the money for Thembi. She was absolutely
taken aback when we gave her the money. I don’t think she was really expecting
God to provide for her that fast. I’ve found that a lot of time though that God
waits to provide for us until we step out in faith.
