What to Say? What tooooo saaaay? This blog is going to be all over the place, since I don’t even know what I’m going to write about. I’ve been wanting to write something for a couple weeks now and just haven’t taken the time. Thanks to some encouragement by squad mate Emily Miller, (emilymiller.theworldrace.org), I “just gotta pound it out”. 🙂
So, lets talk about a very deep subject here for a minute.
AMER’CA!
Now from my pre-teens/early teens, I had a great pride for my country and it’s military. I wanted to join the military and fight for my country. I wanted to join the elite forces and be a great soldier. Then when I was about to graduate I finally pushed the button and talked to a recruiter to join the USMC. It went pretty well until I mentioned asthma. Then I never heard from any military recruiter again. So I thought maybe I should join the police force, but that never went anywhere. – and to stay on subject, I’ll stop there. –
Recently, more than ever, there have been major talks about gun control and gay marriage, and the media has been having a field day with it all. I used to, and still do in some part, get furious over the idea of gun control and i had a small problem with gay marriage. But now, after the past few month and seeing what God has been teaching me, I really don’t care. I know that some would say that it is our job to make sure our country isn’t the next Soddom and Gamorah. But it just doesn’t matter to me.
As long as we have sick, dying, and homeless men, women and children we need to worry about them. We need to stop fighting on whether a non-christian can get married or not or if we are allowed to have guns and we need to start worrying about these people who need help. Why are we so concerned with whether gays are allowed to get married or not? Marriage is a holy covenant and, when you really think about it, should only be practiced by Christians. So, shouldn’t we also be upset that non-Christians are getting married before they know God and get saved by t/he grace of Jesus Christ. NO! We should not expect non-Christians to live by Christ’s standards. Like the Song says, “Jesus needs to change her heart, before he changes her shirt.”
Then on to gun control. I’ll tell you what, it is very hard for me to not get hot and bothered about someone trying to limit or take away my guns. I love guns. I was going to be a gunsmith, but that hasn’t (prolly wont) panned out. But recently, God has been working on me. Showing me that I must give EVERYTHING. Not just what I want to give. It’s is hard for me to say, but I think I am going to have to sell my guns. They are too much like an idol. I think maybe later in my life, God will allow me to have that passion/hobby back in my life. But for now it is holding me back.
And I must encourage you also, What is an idol in your life? What do you refuse to give up? What do you dwell on and then after think to yourself that you could have read your Bible or prayed during that time? We must challenge ourselves and literally give up EVERYTHING that God calls us to give up.
