I can’t begin tell you how many times I’ve been lost, and I don’t mean lost while driving. I mean being 12 years old with no cell phone, totally lost in the middle of some cornfield or woods, trying to figure out which way was north by using any and all of the survival tricks I’d read about.

Even when I was old enough for a smartphone, I’d leave it at home and hike until I didn’t know where I was.

Some call it the folly of youth, some call it adventure; either way, it’s always considered something you will grow out of.

Why are we expected to grow out of this hunger for adventure?

God led a nation of two million people on a run from the most powerful military in the world, led Gideon into a battle outmatched 13 to 1, and Jesus told His disciples to go with no preparation of even the most basic life essentials.

Every time that God has done something miraculous, it has always been outside of our comfort zones, where it is not safe, where we had to rely completely on Him without a savings account or 401k as a backup plan.

Not only has He led by example, but He has also commanded us to go. Into all the world, into our homes, our workplaces, and across the world.

I believe that I am being led into the World Race, a ministry of Adventures in Missions consisting of an 11 month long mission trip serving 11 different countries.

The ways we will be serving vary from location to location based upon the needs of each area. Earthquake stricken Nepal may require construction while Peru may require children’s ministry, and Bulgaria may need someone to preach sermons. We will “offer ourselves as living sacrifices” and see God work!

“Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”; and my cup has overflowed. This adventure is too big for me to complete on my own and I invite you to join me on this spiritual journey. You can join me by following my blog, viewing the pictures I take, sharing the videos I film, and participating in the discussions of spiritual lessons and applications.

Most significantly, I request prayer. This is a larger step outside my comfort zone than I’ve ever taken. While intimidating due to the magnitude, I know that Christ works most when we are at our weakest, and I look forward to experiencing his handiwork firsthand, and sharing it with you.

Finally, If you feel led to contribute, I also need financial support.

While one-time gifts are appreciated, I would encourage you to consider supporting me on a monthly basis.

In our busy lives, it is easy to “donate and forget”, but consistent donations mean consistent involvement, and will enable you to experience this mission trip on a more personal level.

There are two ways to donate:

  1. Through my blog, in which all donations go to Adventures In Missions and are allocated to my account. Monthly donations can be set up at http://adventures.org/dynapay/.
  2. Or personally via cash or check. Personal donations will be used to offset the cost of the required gear, foreign disease medications, passports and visas, training camp, and other expenses not covered by Adventures in Missions’ trip cost.

Should you decide to join me spiritually, electronically, or financially, the central hub for everything is my blog: http://mikefiene.theworldrace.org.

Adventure and stepping outside our comfort zones looks different for all of us, but God’s promises are consistent. Step out with me, and on your own; today, tomorrow, and every day after that.
