So good news I got twitter, I can now @ mention you all…once you follow me 😉 My clever title of this blog is not only an ingenious way to put my name in it but is also my twitter name, so let the tweets begin!
VIETNAM…a month of ministering to the unexpected.
Each month you can usually put a pretty stereotypical ministry label on it that is usually easily understood and recognizable. But this month was different and may be hard to explain/understand.
First, the more common types of ministry that we did do were working with the deaf community, visiting an orphanage, and worshiping. All of these opportunities were amazing and am blessed to have been able to be part of it. Worshiping with the deaf was a sight I will never forget and that will forever be ingrained in my head, true definition of true worship regardless of the type.
The atypical ministry that we did do was building a relationship with our contact and pouring into him. This last month in Da Nang, Vietnam we worked with a young local, Ky. At the staggering age of 17, he was our contact for the month and unknowingly my/our ministry. He became like my little brother and my twin, which I’ll explain.
With the name like ‘Mickey’ I am bound to be compared to ‘Mickey Mouse’ or have a people sing a song about me BUT this time I wasn’t known for the similarity to ‘Mickey Mouse’ but rather the ending of my name was ‘key’ like our contacts name Ky. So he would call me Ky number two or the extra one and he was the real Ky. It was quite entertaining/funny but was also confusing at times.
Ky was a young, smart student who knew and spoke English very well. He spoke it so well that sometimes he would speak Vietnamese to his friends or a local and I would be so confused as to how he knew Vietnamese thinking Ky was American just like us. Thus, his English was so proficient that we would joke around with him all the time and he would be sarcastic with us also; to an extent where I was unclear at first to whether or not he was joking or not because it’s rare for the locals to have such a deep understanding of English.
We would hang out with Ky everyday and just pour into him, encourage him and continue to tell him that he can do anything he sets his mind to. It was a great opportunity for us to just love on him and be there for him. We would even have sleepovers, bringing us back to our younger days. It was a great half-way race month to just have fun, relax, and have the little brother I never had.
Please pray for Ky that he would find his strength in God the Father and know that he has brothers and sisters in Christ here to support him. Pray that he would not settle for anything but would dream big and do bigger! Thank you!
PS: Due to Vietnam being a closed country, Facebook was blocked and, for better or worse, has led me to the alternative social networking site…Twitter.
Thank y’all for your continual support prayerfully and financially! It has been a huge blessing to have people that care so much about what God is doing through me and in me, on this race! I have met the deadline but it would be a blessing to my family and I if you could to continue to support me. ($1,929 left)
