Busia,
Kenya is a small town on the border of Kenya and Uganda. This is the
town where
we will be serving for the month of June. We have been here for a week
now and
helped build a classroom and an office for our Pastor Gideon. We have
instantly
fell in love with this town and its people walk down main street –
I
can’t help but smile.

Life in
Busia is not like any other month on the race. Bucket showers with not
exactly
clean water (showering twice a week and whenever it rains – seriously –
I’ve
gotten pretty good at washing my hair off the roof of the house),
sleeping with
mosquito nets even when you are sleeping indoors and hearing them buzz
around
outside the net, riding on boda-bodas (bicycles that serve as taxis) to
go get
water, and being called white person by all the adorable children as you walk down the road. With all that being said – there is
something about this place that just makes you happy. It would be very
easy to
be annoyed at what a typical day looks like here in Busia, but the fact
is – it
is beautiful. Every day is beautifully simple.

I’ve
become more aware of my flesh and what is really important and how
spoiled I
really am. I have everything I need. I definitely don’t have everything I
want
– so I must ask myself are you going to choose to be joyful today?

Rejoice in the Lord always,
I will say it again: Rejoice!
Let your gentleness be eviden to all The Lord is near.
