Well two long days of travel we have made it safely to the Philippines. We pulled up in a 60 passenger bus and were welcomed by kids waving and yelling “what’s your name?” Team GLO instantly fell in love. You see we weren’t even supposed to be here. We were scheduled to go to Malaysia but it fell through and we were re-routed to the Philippines. I can’t imagine not being here. Last week we had five days of debrief with our squad, squad leaders, and coaches which was amazing. We feel restored and ready for a month of ministry.

We started out the week by helping paint a widow’s (we call her Lola – which means Grandma) house. I was painting her fence when one by one children came up to the fence and sat by the curb and watched me paint. Before I knew it there were a group of 7 kids watching me paint a fence. In that moment I thought…why? Why are they drawn to me? Is it because I’m white? Is it because they think I have money? I wanted to know. I then thought…is it Jesus? Are they drawn to me because of HIM? Because that is what I want. I want to love people like HE loves them.

Another one of our main ministries this month is working on a community census. There are around 1,000 homes all nestled into a small confined area. As we walked around with a translator we are invited into people’s homes. Our main goal is to find out who is living in the home and if there are any immediate needs. We write down the names and ages and any health concerns people have. Most of the homes ask for the basics such as food and water. They don’t have running water. It is delivered weekly by a large truck. Kids take baths in large bowls. Mothers wash clothes in those same bowls. They don’t have much but they love and take care of what they do have. What I have learned about this community is that even though they don’t have much they still have hope and joy.

Prayer Requests:
Health – many people are sick with fevers.
Team GLO – Pray that the Lord guides us this month in ministry.
The Children’s Home – 34 children need a loving home.
Support – I need $1,300 more by April 1st.

I seriously love you all and miss you. Thanks so much for reading and for your encouragement.

Love,
Michelle
