My team is in Nepal for month 8 and from the moment we flew in, I absolutely love it here. Flying in, we could we see the Himalayans from the air and it was the most majestic sight of mountains my eyes have ever seen. God has so beautifully created this country and all that is in it. We are spending most of our time in Kathmandu, which is the capital of Nepal and a large tourist area. Living quarters are in a guesthouse complete with beds, toilets, hot showers, power (on occasion), and right in the middle of the tourist area. I love our home and how much we have been blessed with this living situation. Meals are amazing, prepared by a local gentleman who knows what is up with Nepalese food. To top off all the amazingness, I love love love ministry. Our contact is with High Adventure Ministry and has his hand in many different ministries. These include friendship evangelism (sharing Jesus with the local young population), slums, and leper colony, working with Nepalese women saved from brothels, and preaching the gospel.

So far, we have had five days of ministry in Kathmandu and it all began with a prayer walk to a local Buddhist temple. Our contact took the time to tell us about Buddhism and Hindu here in Nepal. We then took time to pray over the temple and for what God has for this us to do in this city with His people. The second day of ministry was going back to a section of this same temple to speak with young people to tell them about Jesus and how much He loves each of us. It was a holiday and students flocked to the temples to seek wisdom from the goddess of wisdom. There were 100’s at the temple this day; I had the opportunity to share Jesus with 2 18-year-old Nepalese young women with my teammate Cara. They were very open with us and first shared with us about their beliefs. We then proceeded to share with them about how we believe in Jesus and shared how much He loves them and wants their hearts. It was amazing and after 40 minutes we went separate ways but I know we planted seeds. This same day we were hanging out with some beggars in the temple, women and their children. We sat down with them and among the broken English, we shared life with them. We stayed until we began to hear whistles and the local police showed up. As soon as the police arrived, they all ran making the motion of being hit and I assume the police hit them. This was such a sweet day sharing Jesus and I was so amazed how He met us this day to the open hearts.

Our third day of ministry was visiting a leper colony, and it was very heavy for me to be there. This colony is about 150 people and they are sent here as outcasts by family because they believe they are contagious. All the residents of the colony have been hospitalized and are not contagious but this is a way for them to be put off. Many have lived here for many years if not most of their lives. The disease is eating away their hands, feet, and other body parts. My teammate prayed a prayer of salvation with a gentleman. The fourth day of ministry was working in a large slum where we played games with the kids and sang songs. This was very similar to ministry did in Thailand in the slums. It was so easy for me to go into this slum and to love on these kids. Our last day of ministry was at a rescue home where Nepalese women are saved from brothels in India and near borders of China. This was so amazing to see these women have a place to go to hear about Jesus and fall in love with Him. Here they get their life’s back on track and learn to reenter society as functioning women. I have been apart of bar ministry where I have entered the bars to share Jesus but never seen these women after they have been rescued. My heart went out for these women and the boldness they have to leave all that they know. They are brainwashed and led to think that no one can help them, which is not true.
Prayer flags of Nepal, view of countryside by leper colony, and handstands on our lunch break.
I have seen the Kingdom in so many different ways here among all the different ministries. Nepal has so much light and there are many ways that the Kingdom is being brought here in Kathmandu. I have been blown away by out contact and all the different things he is involved in. We travel to Chitwan on Sunday for a few days to do ministry and will be living in a village. Prayers for ministry this month, safe travels to and from the village, and all God has for me in Nepal.
