We’ve been here at our site now for 3 days.
Yesterday (Sunday, Jan. 7) we drove up into the mountains about an hour to go to church.
It was a beautiful little community and the worship service we experienced together there was very powerful.
I think what got me the most was the fact that I was sitting in the middle of nowhere –
in the mountains of southern Mexico – with people who I couldn’t understand (most didn’t even really speak Spanish – mostly Chol, another dialect much like Spanish) and who couldn’t understand me … but we were able to
somehow seek God together.
And even more than that – I knew that people at home were doing the same thing, at the exact time, even though ya’ll were WAY far away.
One thing that I believe I will see continuously throughout this year, and one thing I’ve excited to see, is how
big our God is and how He is working ALL over the world.

After church, we drove an hour farther up into the mountains to spend the day at a place called Las Cascadas de Agua Azul.
I keep saying that everything I see here is beautiful, but this was TRULY incredible.
The waterfalls there were huge.
There were several descending cascades and a place where you could even jump off one of the falls – about 15 ft. high!
We spent the afternoon there playing and swimming a bit.
It was a much needed day of rest and relaxation.
In fact, I venture to say it was one of the best Sabbaths I’ve had in quite awhile.

I told my team the other day that the Lord keeps expanding my heart and mind more and more it seems everyday.
This was first demonstrated to me on the bus ride down to
Palenque
.
It’s simple, but this is NOT the
Mexico
that I had pictured in my head before coming here.
I had in my mind a dusty, dry, hot and lifeless land.
Instead, I have seen LIFE and BEAUTY everywhere!
From the lush green landscape to the sweet rains that have flooded our camp for 2 days now, I have been constantly surprised.
He is teaching me continually that this trip is
not about my expectations.
He will exceed them every time.
And it’s not about my plans or what I think this year should be about … it’s about His will and what He wants to do in my life.
That’s it.
Bottomline.

The plans for this week are to remain here until Sat, Jan. 13th and then we will possibly have to find more lodging but will be in
Palenque
for the rest of the month.
Fun stuff.
Until next time.
Love. Love. Love.
One more note:
in case you see that it’s been awhile since I last blogged, please check out my teammates’ sites in the case that they have had the opportunity to post when I have not.
Sometimes we will simply designate one team member to update, so keep your eyes open for that as well.
You may check the
Meet the 2007 Participants page to check up on my teammates … OR each of their names are listed below.
In fact, I would encourage you to keep up with as many of them as you have the opportunity to – prayers for the team and for our work are coveted!
Thank you in advance for the support and for seeking the Lord on our behalf.
