Simply because in one day I was proposed to, given socks from a gypsy woman (as well as pastries) and two dents in my hand….courtesy of a dog in the gypsy village.
My day started off with our team walking to a near-by adult orphanage. An orphanage for adults with disabilities, or handicaps. However, they are awesome and incredibly creative. I love i.t!
What had happened was one of the men in the orphanage continuously tried to give me his ring and tried putting it on my wedding finger. To make me his 'wife'. My mates thought it was great that they would "marry me off" and leave me here in Bulgaria.
However I may have the gift of distraction, and so I would continuously find something else to do, and would say "no no you keep" or "I don't want to steal your ring" which one of our translators would communicate to him. One of his caretakers would say "It's okay he just likes sweet things"
Later on, we found out that he was not just sweet on myself, but our other mate Jenn. Whom he had proposed to the day before.
In the afternoon our team headed to a near-by gypsy village to do a program for the kids. However, before we started, and were waiting on everyone getting to our meeting spot, I found some doggies!! Of which I thought of going near and making friends with them. Of which I had no food on me….except cat treats…(courtesy of Amanda)…..But I thought "oh they won't know the difference"….I beg to differ that thought now. After feeding the 3 doggies treats and petting them….one of them thought of bitting my hand. (I blame this on the idea that they are abused and he thought I was going to hit him)
Then this sweet gypsy woman saw that I had no socks on. (due to me wearing my signature shoes, TOMS) She had gone back to her home and came back with a pair of socks. Which I wasn't able to put on with one hand. (I had to keep my hand in my pocket so kids wouldn't see blood) So Amanda had put one sock on and the woman put the other sock on.
It was humbling and beautiful to me. Even though I felt a little handicaped.
Side note (this how I told my mom what happened):
ME: Hey momma,
Jenn may tell you… I may have been bit by a dog. It's okay though… It was only my hand.
Love you!
MOM: How can you may have been bit. How bad is your hand and which hand?
ME: It's not too bad…my right hand….they're just two dents. 🙂 no stitches needed. it's clean and has gause on it now….lets just say gypsy dogs don't like cat treats..
MOM: What is the thing about rabies on facebook. First malaria from a mosquito, now possible rabies from a dog. Please don't go to the zoo or near any alligators. Love you.
