I have read many World Race blogs. I’ve heard advice from friends, and less than friends. All the advice points one way (well there’s other advice too, but for another time) – this trip is really going to get you close to some (or lots of) people. And to get the most of it, you need to embrace it.

I sometimes call myself an open person. And if you ask me a question, I probably will answer it honestly. But, I’ve been challenged by this a lot lately, and I guess the conclusion is I’m not that much of an open person. You know those general questions, that require an answer but not necessarily a good one? Well I give the least amount of information possible. If I don’t know you well or I’m uncomfortable, I’m the quietest person in the room. And, quite frankly, there are parts of me I casually go out of my way to not mention, for example, how much TV I watch.

The conviction here, is that I want to be more transparent. Be more willing to communicate with people. Not to change who I am, but challenge my comfort zone.

And, to future team members, I want to get to know you. It may not be in the most conventional ways, but it will happen!
