Hello friends!!
I thought I’d give an update about my life since being back from the race. It’s been just over 6 months…wow how time flies! I’d say the adjustment has been pretty easy for the most part. When I got back at the beginning of August, I moved to Kansas where my best friend had been living for a couple of months. She had recently gotten a job there and I thought I’d be cool to come out as well. What else was there to do! lol So, off to Montezuma, KS I went. I’m still here in Kansas even today. The town we are living in is quite small, the smallest I’ve ever lived in. Population is just over 900! I spent the first couple of months getting readjusted to life and culture back here in the states. You’d think that being gone 11 months wouldn’t require too many readjustments…you’d be wrong π Just ask anyone who’s ever been on the race! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss my squadmates. I do miss them…I spent every single day with them for 11 months! I missed out on Tricia’s (squad leader) wonderful wedding. Most of the entire squad was there in December. I was sad to miss it, but did so that I could attend another wedding, and the chance to see one of my best friends get married was worth missing it.
I started looking for a job a few months after being back. I loathe job hunting. For sure not one of my favorite things to do. I sent out applications all over the place. Probably from coast to coast. And I did find a job eventually…in Montezuma, KS lol I like to refer to it as the middle of nowhere Kansas..but it’s exactly that! There’s not in the area of southwest Kansas. I like my job though! I work at a museum…oddly enough it features artifacts from a Montezuma couple who traveled the world for nearly 40 years…and visited 95 countries! They have both since passed on…the Stauth Memorial Museum opened up in 1996…3 years after Donalda’s passing (her husband, Claude, passed away in 1987). Anyhow, I am the Assistant Director and Education Coordinator. My job is to coordinate all of the education programs/events for each of our traveling exhibits. I like it π Below is a picture of the area…Montezuma is a couple of miles from this wind farm…
What are my plans for the future?? I have no idea! What I do know is that I’ll stay at my job until God moves me elsewhere…in the meantime, I have some plans for short term missions trips! Looks like I will be heading to Haiti in August for 6 days to do some relief work! I’m pretty excited about it. My best friend is going with me and we’ll be leaving on August 4th and will return to the states on August 10. I was kind of bummed when I didn’t get to celebrate my birthday on the race…we got back a few days before my bday. But it looks like I’ll be in Haiti for the big day this year! Not that it was planned that way…actually, the original plan was to go to Haiti the 1st of September. But I found out a good friend of mine was getting married on the 2nd of September! So I switched over to the August trip. I forgot to mention that the trip will be with Adventures in Missions (yes, that’s the same organization the World Race is with). So, please keep me in your prayers! I have about $1,200 that needs to be raised (not near as much as the World Race…praise the Lord!!) Sorry Tricia…no word from our good Lord about moving to Costa Rica…you’ll be sad, my mother will be elated π But, I did put a pic of us on my facebook profile to make ya feel better
So…as I leave you…here are a few tid bits of info about all the traveling I did with the World Race…( my teammate Ryan actually posted quite of bit of this info on one of his blogs…I just did some minor tweaking so it fit my race route)
Countries I have been in (a few are just airports but none the less I was still there for a short time. Many of the airports we slept in! lol π
