1.16.11. Day 126
Hello friends!!
What a wonderful time we have been having here in Kenya. I’m not sure I’ve mentioned it or not, but it is not hot here!! I was totally shocked to realize that even in their summer months, the weather is much much nicer than Asia! Asia was soooo hot and humid. I couldn’t walk down to the end of the road without sweating. Here in Kenya I even bought a sweater for the cool mornings and even nicer evenings. The afternoon can get warm but it is a dry heat…very much like the weather I grew up with. On our free day last week we were able to visit the Giraffe Centre. The Giraffe Centre was started many years ago when there was a threat to the giraffe population. This place is awesome!
And because I’m still a student at ENMU (only 1 class left!) I was able to use my student ID to get in. Instead of paying 700 Kenyan shillings which is almost $9.00.�I only had to pay 250 shillings which is only $3! When you are a missionary on a tight budget, every dollar counts lol. For our 250 shillings we were able to feed giraffes, scratch behind their ears, and let them kiss us. I will say this….their tongues are incredibly long!!! Which you can see from some of the pictures lol. We even saw a few warthogs running around the place.
In other news, we have been staying at the senior pastor’s home this month. We take bucket showers because the water level is low. It may have been a few days since I have washed my hair or bathed�.I think tomorrow will make day 7 since I have enjoyed clean hair! It is definitely a new record for me!! I think my previous record was only 2 days lol. There is just something about being on the other side of the world around people you don’t really know, ya just don’t care about how ya look! But don’t judge me lol…there are others who have definitely gone longer than me!! Maybe I’ll try a little baby powder in the hair and see how much longer I can last…although my head is really starting to itch!
