10.22.10 Day 40
hello friends!
greetings from the jungle of Malaysia π This has been a fantastic week! By the time you are reading this, we will be in the town of Raub for a short break from the jungle. My last blog mentioned that there were going to be a lot of kids here in the village. Well, there are a lot of kids here in the village! There are a good 200 kids here π which has made me really happy. I’m hoping there will be pictures attached to this blog. If you see them…it worked. If you don’t…then it didn’t lol.
Ministry here in the jungle has been a lot of fun. We have been splitting our team in half each morning in order to get everything done. Half of the group stays at the church and teaches English to the kids. I wish I could say that all 200 of the kids come to school to learn, but they don’t. We have only had about 12 kids there each morning. It’s difficult to teach to them because they don’t speak English and we don’t speak their dialect of Malay. We have been teaching them colors, numbers, letters, small words, and simple math. There is no school out in the jungle and the only time they go to school is when missionaries come out this way. We learned this week that there are Korean missionaries coming next week to build them a school! (which is really exciting π Please continue to pray for the villages here and pray that they can get adequate materials and qualified teachers.
While one group is teaching English at the church, the other half is farming just up the road. They farm the land and then sell it in order to make a living. It’s quite hot here in the middle of the day. It’s not like the Philippines. The Philippines was hot and humid. Malaysia is hot and dry! Much more like New Mexico. So, at any given time of the day you can jump in the river to cool off. And it feels great! You can also, at any given time, find handfuls of naked little kids running around and jumping in the river. It’s quite the scene!
Well friends, we have one more week in the jungle before heading off to Bangkok, Thailand! Continue to pray for my team and our finances. There are currently 3 of us who are still not fully funded. I currently am still in need of $5,243 in order to be fully funded. I have no doubt that God is taking care of this! The other two on my team need around the same amount as well. Have a great week friends and I’ll see ya soon π
Much love from the jungles of Malaysia!
