Hello friends!
We have finally made it to Malaysia!
Our travel days were crazy! Here is a brief rundown of our travel days:
Sunday
5:30 am–get up and pack. Have to use the last remaining 30 minutes of electricity (no electricity once 6 am gets there)
7:00–van arrives to pick us up. Yay for an air conditioner 🙂
10:30 am–van driver stops at a restaurant for us to eat lunch.
11:00–back on the road
12:00–arrive in Puerto Princesa!
12:15–try to go into the airport because it’s hot outside…and cool inside! They said no…can’t go in until 3:00 because our flight doesn’t leave until 5:50 pm 🙁
12:20–try to find an a/c place to wait it out. Found a cafe to sit in! We had to order drinks and stuff in order to stay.
2:00–electricity goes off for some strange reason. sad day.
3:00–Ryan, our team leader, finds out that we can’t go to the terminal until 3:30…instead of 3:00
3:30–finally make inside and wait for our flight.
6:15–plane takes off for Manila, Philippines
7:00 finally make it to Manila. Need to catch the shuttle to another terminal. More waiting around. Can’t find the shuttle
8:15–finally decide to take a taxi to meet up with the other team we’ll be traveling with this month.
9:00–finally make it to the other terminal and meet the other team. Team Habibi is now starving and on the verge of initiating WW III lol
10:00–everyone is finally fed 🙂 Now more waiting because our next flight doesn’t leave until 4 am.
10:30–cafe we are staying at inside the airport is closing…they make us leave 🙁
10:35–try to find somewhere to sleep until we leave to go to the international terminal around 2
2 am–leave for the international terminal and meet up with the rest of Q-squad!
3:30 am-find out our 4am flight isn’t really leaving until 6:50!
3:31–more waiting…
5 am- (now a full 24 hours w/o sleep!) we finally start getting checked in for flight to Singapore
6:50-on our way to Singapore!
11:00 am-land in Singapore to find out that Manila short-checked our baggage. Now we have to get our packs…mine weighs just over 50 lbs!…and go through immigration (but at least we got a stamp in our passport from singapore!) Then we had to re-check our bags and pray that they will not care that all of our bags are over the 20 kg limit..mine is 25 kilo!
12:15–inhale our lunch because our flight starts boarding in 30 minutes!
12:50–pm-board a plane for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (we have now been up for 31 hours straight!)
2:00–land in Kuala Lumpur…then take a bus to train station…then train to ministry location we stayed at for the first two nights! we were up for 40 hours before we finally got some sleep 🙂
I’m hoping to post one more blog in the next day or two to tell you what we’ll be doing next couple of weeks. I know for now that we’ll be in the city until Sunday and then we’ll head out to the jungle for another two weeks!!
