Here is a photo of Juan Jose, pushing his twin brother Pedro.  Pedro is blind because he has cancerous tumors behind both of his eyes.  Please pray for a miracle!  While we were with him, we spent time every day teaching him that his feet are not hands (something that is not instinctive when you dont have sight).  We would work in pairs holding his feet on the ground until he was able to put his feet down and put weight on them on his own.  Before we left, Erin bought him a walker!!! The walker they had previously was burned by the fire a few weeks before we arrived.  They say he would just slump over when they put him in it.  But after our time with him, he uses his legs to push himself around in the walker!!!! Praise God!  Please also pray for Juan Jose as they say the cancer is genetic and it is possible he could develop cancer in the future.  Juan Jose is full of such joy and life!!  His smile lights up your heart, and lights up the room!  I will never forget the way he would blow me kisses to get my attention so I would pick him up :0)  It was a win-win for both of us :0)

The brothers story shows the power of love!  The state took custody of both boys because the mother brought them in regularly to the hospital suffering from malnutrition.  From what they can tell, the mother loved her boys very much, but was so desperately poor, she was not able to keep them from starving.  When taken in, Pedro was on the brink of death and sent to an intensive care unit (if you can call it that), and Juan Jose was sent to the standard government orphanage.  When Juan Jose arrived at Miqueas, no one knew he had a twin. He was malnourished and underdeveloped, and very sick.  The government facility was not able to care for him adequately and Melody and Jacob had to beg and pled for a chance to nurse him to health.  After a few months, they became aware that Juan Jose had a twin!  Immediately they started the process of getting custody of him as well,  Unfortunately, he was even sicker than Juan Jose.  But, after month with the family, Pedro is gaining strength!  While he is still visibly smaller than his brother, he is making a lot of progress.  We could even see him growing in front of our eyes!  What a blessing!

I love these boys so much and spent much time holding and playing with them.  Please pray for them both, and praise God that the love of Jesus is reaching these precious babies through Melody and Jacob and their family… Miqueas 6.8.
