Sitting on the precipice of transformation is a funny thing. You can see it. You know it’s coming. But you know it’s going to be nothing like what you expect.
So I casted off the possessions that had become nothing but a burden, and I set sail onto open waters with the Lord. Will the storm come? When it does, will He call me to step out onto the raging waters with Him? Will He give me authority to calm the waves and banish the rain? Whatever comes, I say ‘Yes’ to God as we sail together toward the great unknown. Early missionaries set sail without GPS, or internet. They didn’t really know what they would find when they got to their destination…..if they even made it….walking strange roads, in a land of unfamiliar language, or sailing high & lonely seas only to land somewhere they did not expect. I already feel so blessed for what little knowledge and help I will receive. Many have endured much harsher conditions with less information and resource at their fingertips and lived an abundant life as a result.
Since being home, I have had the privilege to talk with 3 different friends (Rachel, Rachel, Delia) who are on their own journey of the Great Casting Off. God is calling them to stay where they are, but to cast off the burdens that numb their hearts. Each family, is challenging themselves to give more, and more, and more, till it hurts their comfortable numbness, and causes their hearts to be pierced with the reality of need around them. They are challenging themselves to serve more, help more, give more, and see their time as not their own. They are challenging themselves to allow God to direct their day and casting of the schedules that feel so safe and plans that make so much sense. They are selling things they thought they needed to answer the true need of those around them. They are canceling cable plans, and unplugging from social media to stop the constant noise of this age and hear the precious Holy Spirit deep in their hearts.
All 3 families have young children, but know that the abundant life they want for them is not wrapped in the tempting bow of the American Dream, but will be found in a life of full abandon to the Lord.
I am privileged to Cast Off along with these current ‘hometown missionary’ greats, as we follow the path less traveled in the footsteps of the missionary greats who have gone before.
You too are on the precipice of a Great Casting Off. Will YOU say ‘Yes’ to God with us? Will you invite Him to challenge and stretch you and take you through uncomfortable places to a place of true abundance? Let me know what God is calling you to Cast Off, or Cast Off toward….
