I’ve been helping in grade 5 all month. These strangers are now my friends and they brighten up my day. Destiny school is a school for the property striken families in Matero. Matero is a community in Lusaka, Zambia and it’s known for fake ID’s, passports, and government papers.
There are 230 kids who attend this school, and there are nine grades, along with a preschool.
It costs each child in grade five $30 per term to attend school, and there are four terms each year. The higher grades are $40, and lower grades are less.
In grade five, there are 15 kids, and nine of them still haven’t paid the school fees for the first four months that started in January.
Lunch at school for a month is equivalent to $2 and ten of the students also haven’t paid for that so they don’t eat anything at lunch. The students in the higher grades have about 40 kids who don’t eat because they cannot afford it either.
At lunch, you can walk around and see kids sharing their meal, knowing that their friends won’t eat anything unless they share. Most kids don’t eat at home either, unless their family can afford it.
This month, I’ve gotten a glimpse of what it means to “be starving,” and almost every student you talk to knows what it’s like.
These kids are supposed to be learning, playing, and having fun, but they are drained from the lack of food and cannot focus.
The school that provides them education is barely staying open. Our host sold their car to pay off a loan that they had, but another loan was taken out to pay the staff. When you question anything about how something is going to be provided, the response is, “We trust in the Lord, he will provide.”
Now is the time I want to ask you to pray for this school, this family, and the church here. They’re website is newly finished and the Lord is at work here in many different ways. Check out the website here:

Thanks for your prayers, y’all! Love you a bunch!!
