My good friend David Gardner just posted this blog, so blessed by this guy!  I’ve heard stories from all over the world of how God multiplied food – stories of orphanages that were running low, and had only enough food for 20, and yet a couple hundred kids show up and they have leftovers!  This is on a smaller scale, but no miracle is small!  Praise Jesus!

You Can’t Outgive God

I came on this trip to serve.

I wanted to preach to those who hadn’t heard the Good News, give food and water to widows and orphans and build homes for the homeless. And I’ve done all of those things, but still, at the end of every day, I realized that I have received way more in the four-and-a-half months of this trip than I could repay in the balance of it.

You can’t out-give God.

I learned this in a really small way last week. We were at a lovely hotel for debrief — and by lovely, I mean I had a bed and hot showers. It was the last full day there, and our squad leader, Mike Sanders — who was to leave the next day — was low on money and hungry. I’d saved a little fried rice from the breakfast buffet that day and decided that I would split it with him.

We walked down to the hotel’s kitchen and asked if we could have our food warmed up and split into two boxes because we were sharing. Sure, they said, no problem. I waited for about 10 minutes, and Mike split to buy bread with his remaining money.

The waiter returned with two boxes and said, “Not enough food for you two. So we put extra rice and cucumbers for you.” Each box was full to the brim.

I walked upstairs to meet Mike and report the news to him, and he looked amazed.

“Yeah, it’s really cool that they did that for us,” I said.

“No, you don’t understand,” he said. “When I was downstairs with you, I prayed that our food would be multiplied.”

We ate and ate but could barely finish the portions that we had been blessed with.
