Last week our entire class went on an adventure. We didn’t know where we were going, just that we would be gone all day. Before we left we were given a word for the day: see.
A couple hours later we pulled into the North Carolina Art Museum!
It was an incredible time! We started with a picnic lunch on a hillside just outside the museum. The museum is wonderful. So many awesome works to see. Our only assignment for the day was to find a painting, sit beneath it for an hour and write a response to it. Below is the painting I choose (Golden Dawn, Richard Pousette-Dart) and the response I wrote. The painting is of a skeletal figure ascending into the heavens and being absorbed by the light…

What does it take for me to leave this body and explore the
heavens?
those who have gone before?
all that’s been written?
my own experience?
they can not take me there.
The truth is, all it takes is a moment.
A moment of stillness, knowing He is God.
A moment of peace, letting go of understanding.
A moment of child-like faith.
A moment where you step outside of space place and time and
simply be with God. A moment where you
remember He is with you.
Light comes and touches a person, some light is absorbed, a
shadow is cast, and then the moment is lost.
Our lives disappear almost as quickly as the shadows, but only the light
remains. As I allow more and more of His
light to break thru my clouds of doubt and fear, my former life becomes a mere
shadow and I become the light.
so much to be seen
so much to take in
wondrous avenues
where to begin?
light dances around
me
my self becomes lost
the eyes of my Father
I’ll keep at all cost
and as the world
dissolves before my eyes
ascending into the
heavens light
welcomes me in(side)
the passion stirs
and love awakens me
to new life
