Despite the fact that I have only been gone from the States for about 3 weeks, I have already started to compose a list of things that I miss… some I expected, others I never realized I would miss.
1) Drinks that are COLD, and I mean ICE COLD!
2) Traffic Laws, yes… when you almost get run over about 12 times a day, those tend to seem more and more important.
3) Being able to go places by yourself. At this point, I am pretty sure the bathroom is the only place that I get to go to by myself… and with 46 people in one house, even sometimes I have to share that.
4) A bed with a sheet on it. For those of you that know me well, sheets are not usually high priority for me… but they have become a much missed commodity.
5) Being certain that your toilet will actually flush every time, and that you will have toilet paper in the bathroom. Definitely makes you think twice about just how badly you need to go to the bathroom.
6) Having internet at your house, and not having to walk at least a mile with all your
equipment in tow just to check to see if you have at least one new message from back home.
7) Being able to load all your groceries in the back of your vehicle and just drive home. You tend to become a little more particular about your grocery shopping when you have to carry the bags back with you.
8) Diet Dr. Pepper. Oh, how I miss thee! On a rare basis, I can find a Coca-Cola Light, around here… but not a glimpse of Dr. Pepper in site.
9) A large variety of shoes. I know, I know, it’s a little extreme… but I’m a shoe kind of girl, and the fact that I only have 3 pairs to choose from these days is pretty darn challenging. I am in fact learning that it is okay to not always match!!
10) A clothes dryer (aka my form of ironing). I’m a little bit of a stickler when it comes to my clothes being unwrinkled… and well, I am learning to embrace the “messy” look.
Most of all… I miss my wonderful family, friends, and especially my precious nephew… all of which bring an incredible amount of joy into my life. Love you all bunches!
P.S. Remember not to take the small things for granted today… many people live each and every day with much, much less!
