In a community controlled by a gang I found unconditional love…
How did I end up here?
Honduras was originally on my route when I signed up for the race but was shortly taken off. But before entering Central America we were told that we had the freedom to travel. Instantly my mind went to Honduras. One of my good friend lives there and I had heard so much about it, I knew one day I would go. Fast forward two months and we arrived in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. From there we went to a small community about one hour drive called Ciudad Espania. This community was created by the Red Cross after hurricane Mitch and has approximately 10,000 residents. With little job opportunities and a lack of things to do for the young people, many get involved in drugs and gang culture.
This community became home for 5 days. I had amazing conversations, I met beautiful people, I seen love like I have never seen before, I made friends, I heard the Scottish accent again, I finally could wear a sweater, I found rest in the most unlikely of places.
After 5 short days it was incredibly hard to leave, it became home. Being there brought me so much joy. Honduras you stole my heart. I have learned so much about love, community and relationships.
“Let us be motivated by pure love”

Currently the team are in Guatemala, our final country! It took an 18hour bus ride to get here but we made it and I’m super excited to see what month 11 has in store.
