I remember signing up for the race in March 2016, every night I watched videos from other racers. It got me super excited to go! I think naturally I had an expectation of what the race would be and what I wanted my 11 months to look like. I can say that the past four months has exceeded my expectations.

The fusion route I am on is unique, other than the fact it is open to internationals it is also the only squad that have went out without having any hosts! That part sounded extremely scary to me at first, I kind of thought it was crazy! But I can now say that I would not have choose any other way to do it. See when I signed up for the race I had the expectation that I would have an awesome 11 months in set ministries. What I didn’t expect was to arrive in countries with no set hosts and no plan. But I have fallen in love with that kind of life, every day is unexpected, new, exciting! I have gotten to travel round countries, remain in one community, work with organisations, have no set ministry, tent, stay in a number of hostels and meet so many amazing people along the way.

I have learnt that it is so important for me to drop every expectation of what I thought my race would be like and live every day, be still, listen to God’s voice and take up every opportunity. This isn’t just about learning to live this way for the next 11 months but for the rest of my life.

“When you release expectations, you are free to enjoy things for what they are instead of what you think they should be”

“Rise up, start fresh, see the bright opportunity in each new day”

At the moment, my the team are in Cameron Highlands which is a beautiful part of Malaysia. It is cold, rainy and has lots of hills. It’s kinda like being back home!
