Four months ago I left Sunny Scotland to embark on an 11 month journey to 11 different countries. There have of course been many challenges but what an amazing journey so far, there are days I feel like I’m dreaming. In this blog I wanted to share a bit about the importance of listening to others stories and the impact they have made.

I have always loved listening to stories, hearing about people lives. My favourite person I love chatting to is my Granny, she has the best stories! Before coming on the race part of my job was to listen to peoples stories and I loved that, I could listen all day long. I believe there is a power in a story, one story can change someone’s life, it can empower others to speak up.
As I have been going through this journey I have met many local people who have shared with me, some incredibly heart breaking and many that where extremely empowering. I have also had the opportunity to hear the stories of fellow travellers and how they ended up in a certain area and where they have been previously. I thought travelling for 11 months was a long time, I’ve met people who have been doing it for years! I can see why, the freedom that comes from moving place to place, experiencing different cultures and seeing the beauty in the people and the amazing scenery. The world is a breath-taking place with so much to see.

I am realising that it’s great to share stories but there is an importance in listening. Sometimes people just what to share, they don’t want your opinion or comments which is completely okay. There has been many times I have been too speechless to even say anything back and that’s also okay. Because saying words can be powerful but I also believe there’s power in silence.
This month I am looking forward to hearing the amazing stories of the people I meet, there are cultures from all over the world here in Malaysia!

Now, we are in Penang which is a beautiful island located on the Northwest Coast. We have spent time as a team and getting to know the area.
