So remember my last blog post? The one where I said I was ready for this trip? Yeah, I wasn’t. I had a complete meltdown about 20 minutes after we got here, and had no idea why. I bought into the lie that I didn’t need God to teach me anything else, and that I didn’t need to rely on Him. Let me tell you, when you move to a third world country, you are gonna need God. It is a tough adjustment being forced to rely on Him and only Him, but when you allow yourself to to surrender, the rewards are amazing. He is moving in crazy ways here in El Salvador.
The Lord has sent me so many blessings in the simplest ways…
All of the walls in my new house are yellow. (Those of you who know me well understand how amazing this is.)
My team was lost hiking a volcano this week, and God sent us a farmer out of nowhere who showed us the way. His name was Santos (Saint).
There is a lizard that lives in the shower, and we named him Larry.
I get to eat yogurt for breakfast.
I set my hammock up in our room on a sketchy bunkbed that will probably crash on top of me in the middle of the night.
There is no glass in the windows here, so I can smell the rain from inside.
Our ministry host bought me Fanta and played cards with me.
I played monkey in the middle with two beautiful girls at the school today.
I am officially on a football team, which is hilarious for those of you who know how uncoordinated I am, but I absolutely love it.
The washer has no water pressure, so we fill it up with buckets, which is just really fun.
A little boy on the street smiled at me yesterday.
We crammed eight people into a baby car for an hour drive to a volcano.
I am listening to thunder and pouring rain this very second.
The power literally just went out, and we all screamed.
One of the staff members here named Nestor is one of my new favorite people, and he told me today that I am pretty cool sometimes, so that’s pretty cool.
We drink our juice straight from the jug and don’t use cups. (Sorry mom).
I ate ice cream yesterday.
Life is always an adventure here, nothing is typical, and I love it.
These may all seem like silly things, but these are the places where I experience the Lord, and He has been showing up like crazy. He brings so much joy when I simply stop and look for Him. I can’t wait to share more Jesus stories with y’all. Thank you for all of the support and the prayers.
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. –1 Peter 1:8
