June 16th: Migowi, Malawi
Mulibwanji! (How are you?)
Ndilibwino kaya inu? (I’m fine, and you?)
Ndilibwino, zikomo. (I’m fine, thank you.)
I have fallen in love.
Never in my life have I seen such a place as this. The flat farmlands are punctuated by craggy hills and condensed mountain ranges. The people here, though they call out Mazungu (white person!) to get your attention, are some of the most overtly friendly people I have ever experienced. They are polite, even when teens talk to each other they don’t have slang for hello, it is always “Hello, mulibwanji?”
In Migowi (Mih-go-wee) the options for ministry are truly abundant. There is a secondary school just across the dirt road from where we stayed, a primary school 10km away, an orphanage, clinic, nursery school, computer classes, tutoring, teaching English communication, an orphan girl’s dormitory for the secondary school, as well as SCOM (Student Christians of Malawi) meetings, and pastors who are thirsty for knowledge of the Word.
We spent our time at all of these places except the clinic (but our new British friend Anna worked there and stayed with us too). We led a conference at Pastor Duncan’s (our contact) church where Pastors rode their bikes from as far as 26km away to attend. Taught a few little lessons at the nursery where they are learning English, Kelton taught computer lessons, we held bible studies during their lunch hour, ran the SCOM meetings, and made a heap of new friends!
