My degree is in English with
a concentration in Creative Writing and a minor in Philosophy.
Needless to say I love to read and write. When I read
certain books of the Bible, like Isaiah or Hebrews or certainly Psalms,
I get stirred by the language of the people who knew God so long
ago. And He is the same God who speaks to US today, can you
believe it? How precious should those words be and how intently
should I listen to the voice that spans over thousands of generations?
And when I can’t hear a voice, the Lord’s “word is a lamp unto my feet
and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:115. He is speaking.
He is creating. He is with me.
We are not alone for the God of the universe is with us.
JOB 37
“At this my heart pounds
and leaps from its place.
Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,
to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He unleashes lightening beneath the whole heaven
and sends it to the ends of the earth.
After that comes the sound of his roar;
he thunders with majestic voice.
When his voice resounds,
he holds nothing back
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’

The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.”
Listen to this, Job;
stop and consider God’s wonders.
“He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart”
Close the Lord’s heart is where we are to dwell. In that place
there is no worry, no anxiety, no sickness for the power of the Lord
and his fervent love is there. It is in his arms that we can hear
the still quiet voice he so often speaks to us with because he can lean
down and whisper directly into our ear. I have this image of us
so small peering out over his arms and he whispers to us, “Watch this,
Beloved.”
Then he calls out the stars one by one and because of his greatness not
one of them is missing (Isaiah 40:26). He shows the morning it’s
place that it might take the earth by it’s edges and make the dawn for
us (Job 38:13). Then the mountains and hills burst into song, and
all the trees of the fields clap their hands (Isaiah 55:12).
There in his arms, while all the heavens swell in worship before us, he
whispers to us encouragement, gentle discipline, love songs,
affirmations, ruminations of his love for us… And that is the
place where a peace that transcends all understanding can be found.
