A few days ago I told my friend Pam (also my mentor) about asking God if He would give me the gift of healing while I was at training camp. A woman named Shelvy prayed for me and I feel confident that the Lord granted my request and gave me the desire of my heart. He also told me that He would afflict with the same thing that needed healing so that I would know what to pray for.
Amen! (But a little scary)
But since I told her, she has been calling me out like you wouldn’t believe! It’s good for me, though, why ask God to do a work and give you a gift if you don’t want to use it? She has already prodded me to expand my understanding of His gift and to practice it.
Our church is doing a Mars Hill study every Tuesday night for the month of September and last night after the study Pam called me over to her. She presented a woman to me, whom I had met before but for the life of me could not remember her name, and asked me if I would pray for her. I said sure and put my hand on her, asked the Holy Spirit to come, and then waited…
Maybe a minute later, I still wasn’t sure what to pray about, but my vision felt like it got a little blurry so I started praying for that and for us to know God’s power and presence in our bodies. I prayed in all “we” and “us” forms because I was nervous I wasn’t praying for anything relevant to her. We prayed for a few minutes then said amen and immediately I felt really dizzy.
“So, what’s been going on?” I asked her, “I’m feeling really dizzy right now. Have you been feeling dizzy or been having blurry vision?”
Pam interjected here and told her about how God told me He would afflict me with what needed healing while I was praying.
“Yes! I have been suffering from vertigo for about five weeks now.” She exclaimed.
“Aha!” I thought, “now it makes sense why I am feeling so dizzy.”
“Okay, well, would you have a seat, I’d like to pray for you again.” I said.
She replied with a smile, “I could tell you weren’t done with me.”
So she sat and I kneeled in front of her and began praying. My hands went up to her head and to the pressure she said she’d been feeling like a vice on her temples and I felt the power of the Holy Spirit speak over her infirmity.
After we were done praying, she said she had felt a release of the pressure on her head and she wasn’t dizzy at all (and neither was I!), praise our God!
This really gets me excited because, as Pam said to me, whenever I get a sudden headache or stomachache or pain in any way, I should not dwell in that but first ask for God to show me who needs prayer. Also, the woman I prayed over this night was older than me but the power of the Holy Spirit uses those who know Him and that gets me excited because satan may be whispering “what do I know, I can’t pray for someone older and more spiritually mature than me.”
But God’s word says:
“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity… Do not neglect your gift which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid hands on you.” 1 Timothy 4:12 & 14
