[Person 1: Love you!]
[Person 2: Love you too.]
That sounds like apart of a fairly normal conversation with a friend or family member, yeah?
I know that it was apart of my every day conversation with friends and family for my whole life until about two months ago.
Why?
I heard a conversation between two of my squad mates at debrief at the end of month 1/beginning of month 2, that literally changed my life and the way I casually said those two words.
Their conversation went a little like this….
*Disclaimer: This may not be verbatim*
Squad mate 1: I love you!
Squad mate 2: Aw, thank you! I love you too! I love that you said, “I love you” instead of just “love you!”
Squad mate 1: No problem! I want to make it personal. I don’t like it when people just say, “Love you…” it makes it sound so impersonal.
Squad mate 2: I agree. Thank you for that.
They didn’t know that I was listening, but that conversation convicted me so much. It caused me to examine how I chose my words and how intentional I was being with them.
Was I just throwing them around?
Was I just being impersonal?
It’s something I heard two months ago and it is still a conversation I have that goes through my mind daily. I strive to make sure I am personal with saying, “I love you” and “I miss you” and truly meaning it. I try not to say, “love you” or “miss you” and make it impersonal.
Jesus used those two people to shift my thinking and cause me to grow in my walk with Jesus and my walk with people.
I felt led to write a blog about this to encourage every person reading this to become more intentional with how you speak and make what you say have weight and meaning. Make it personal.
Also: Thailand has been WONDERFUL so far!!! We have been doing different such as: Redoing a play ground for the school at the church we are staying at, cleaning windows, helping out with praise and worship and next week a few of us will be helping out at a girl’s camp around 3 hours away. Please be praying for us!
Thanks for reading!!!!!!
I love you all!
Sincerely,
Meraia
