When I look back on this past month of Malaysia, I just feel so blessed.
Blessed to have experienced all that I have experienced. Blessed to have met all the people I have met. Blessed to see what God is doing in Malaysia. And blessed to get to be a part of it.
We came into Malaysia not knowing a single person here, but through a variety of means, God led us to so many wonderful people and ministries. I want to take a minute to tell you about each of them.
Pei Yee is our friend who did the World Race back in 2011. She was born and raised in Malaysia and was the first international World Race participant (not including Canadians). Now she has a hand in many different ministries in Kuala Lumpur, including churches, prayer meetings, street ministry, and rescuing women out of prostitution. She is a gentle and bold woman of God, and she truly lives her life to serve the oppressed. She welcomed us so warmly, invited us to join her in ministry, and gave us leads on many other Christian ministries. Pei Yee is AWESOME. http://peiyeesoon.theworldrace.org/
Kingdom City Church is the first church we found in Malaysia. They share the Word of God with thousands every Sunday in Kuala Lumpur. They serve the Lord with excellence. They are reaching out to the lost and leading them to salvation. They are bringing the Kingdom of God to Malaysia with power and might. It was a treat to worship with them. http://kingdomcity.com/kl/
John & Radiance are two of the worship leaders at Kingdom City that we had the pleasure of getting to know. They lead the street ministry teams that go out into the streets to pray for the people of KL. They see salvations, healings and miracles on a regular basis, which is what they expect when they go out with the power of the Holy Spirit. After doing street ministry with them, I was more encouraged to step out in faith to pray for people, and to expect miracles.
The Burn is a group of Christians who gather once a week to worship and exalt Jesus, and to partner with Him in prayer. I was so blessed to get to worship with these brothers and sisters who are so devoted to Jesus in love and worship.
Watoto Children’s Choir was an extra unexpected blessing. They are a choir of Ugandan children who have lost either one or both of their parents to war, AIDS, poverty, or any of the other tragedies that plague their country. They travel the world performing song and dance to raise money for themselves and other Ugandan children. We met the older members of Watoto at the Burn, and we got to go see one of their performances a few days later. It was so cool getting to connect with them, and it made me really excited to go to Africa in three months. http://www.watoto.com/
Abel is another friend we met at the Burn. He is from Botswana, but lives in Malaysia as a missionary. When we were first introduced to Abel, he immediately started telling us story after story about how good God is and the ways He has shown up during street ministry. His faith and excitement for miracles are contagious.
Redeeming Roses is an organization that aims to bring healing and wholeness to women who have suffered abuse and exploitation through the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. It’s run by Carrie and Mindy, and they help women by befriending them, discipling them, and assisting them in living successful, independent lives. Their faithfulness to Jesus and their hearts for the women they help blew me away. http://redeemingrosesministry.blogspot.com/
Kuala Lumpur Urban Fellowship is a Christian drop-in center for Kuala Lumpur’s homeless. It’s run by two awesome guys named Steve and Jerry. They offer everything a homeless person would need to restart their lives. They never tire in befriending the addict, and they never give up hope for each one of them to turn their life around. I’m so excited for the World Racers who will get to work with them in the future!
Sherene is a contact that a friend of Megan’s had met at a missions conference. She is helping to establish the first Free Methodist Church in Malaysia. I didn’t meet her, but she was in contact with Megan all month and was so helpful in connecting our team with other ministries in Malaysia.
Francis is a contact that Jenna’s dad put us in contact with. He was involved in the Boy’s Brigade, a Christian ministry similar to the Boy Souts. He also helped point us in the direction of other ministries in Malaysia.
Mae Yee is the sweet lady who took on the task of caring for us when we stayed at Highlands Christian Center in the Cameron Highlands. The man who runs the center was out of town, so she welcomed us, helped us figure out who to talk to about our arrangements, and she set coffee, tea, and cookies out for us in the evenings. http://youth.my/highlands-christian-centre-centre-hcc/
City Harvest Church is another awesome church we found in Malaysia. This one is in Penang. God’s presence was so strong in that place, and I loved worshiping with those believers so much. The pastor bought us breakfast and talked with us for a while after the service. http://chcpg.org.my/
Eden Handicap Service Centre is an organization that cares for the disabled in Penang. I got to go out with, Julie, a gracious and generous woman who works for them, to talk about them hosting future World Race teams. They house around 15 disabled children and about 20 disabled adults. They care for them, and if possible, help them establish independent lives. I could tell she loves what she does and that she loves the people she cares for with all her heart. http://www.edenhandicap.org/
Penang House of Prayer (PENHOP) is one of my favorite places in Malaysia. Again, my desire to spend my life buidling houses of prayer was reaffirmed as I sat in the prayer room, worshiping and hearing God’s heart. Our whole squad got to participate in their Burn last Friday night and it was awesome. http://www.penhop.org/
These are some of the people who are changing Malaysia from the inside out. They are hosting God’s presence, and making the Kingdom of Heaven a reality in Malaysia.
They are the Unsung Heroes of Malaysia.
