Travel day from Ireland to Romania = 24 hours
We made a pit stop at the most modern city in Romania, Timisoara. The main religion is the Romanian Orthodox Church, there is one below:
On a 7 hour train ride South, we landed in our small village of Draganesti-Olt. There were some very rich, and some very poor gypsies. Guess which type lived in the picture below
Pretty much every household has vines growing in their yard, so when you visit a family they usually give you an abundance of these amazingly delicious concord grapes.
Destructo puppy found a toy
They were so cute
Almost every meal contained potatoes, so it was in this month that I truly missed the simplest cooking utensil … a peeler!
On our day off, our contact took us to the capitol, Bucharest. We took a tour of the building known as Parliament Palace. It’s the second largest office-building in the world! (Pentagon is first :D)
There were a lot of gorgeous rooms throughout the building
I took a picture of the floor, which leads up to the wall, because this symbol was the theme of the building. The building was constructed in this pattern, the floors as well as the grates on the wall had this pattern.
In this room they usually have the worlds largest rug lying across the floor. The rug was rolled up on our tour, but looking at the size of the room, it is one very large Rug.
(BTW this is the largest room in the palace, as well as the most elaborate, because this room was designed primarily for ballrooms.)
View from the balcony of The Palace
Went to the roof of the palace
We also did an underground tour, because there are four more levels of tunnels and even a nuclear bunker. But our money was taken, because all we saw was the heating system. It wasn’t worthy of a picture!
Romanian Flag, and the arc de triumph (said with heavy accent)
The last Communist ruler Nicolae Ceausescu wanted Bucharest to be a “mini Paris”, so he got this arc along with other pretty things to imitate Paris.
Back to Draganesti, this is the usual view you see when you look out the car window
As well as this along the road
One day we got a rare glimpse of trees
And found these hopping all over the place
On travel day there’s an average size bag on the right, and my little bag on the left.
