I realized I never really updated everyone on what we did in ministry this past month, and to me, it’s worth the update. Let me recap…
This past month we worked with a missions organization called Mision Adulam. This organization was started over 20 years ago by our contact, Fineke. The mission is to accept those who are struggling with addiction of any sort into the program where they are housed 24/7 until the Lord has restored them and they can walk in freedom from their addiction and be functional again in society.
The word ‘Adulam’ means refuge in Hebrew.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalm 46:1
God has been teaching me a lot about freedom: Freedom from fear, freedom from sin, freedom from past bondage…freedom to be exactly who I am in Him, freedom to be exactly who He made me to be.
He has made me to be is His daughter, His beloved. It’s nothing I have to work for, it’s who I am. There is so much freedom in knowing that after you accept Jesus as Lord, there is absolutely nothing you have to “work for” in order to attain His love. I can take refuge in Him because He is my Father, He desires for me to come running to Him and leave my burdens at His feet. He is a good Father, the best Father.
One of the last days we spent working with the women and children at one of the rehab houses we had a “Daughters of God Day” for them. We told them all about their identity as daughters of Christ and attempted to pour over them just a fraction of God’s love for them. We washed their feet, we painted their toe nails, we made delicious snacks for them, we massaged their hands, painted their fingernails, spoke verses over them and gave them treats…honestly just a fraction of His love. It was precious to see them take it all in and amazing to see their reactions. Although they were hesitant to have us wash their feet, almost immediately afterward they wanted to wash ours.
Love breeds love. Freedom breeds more freedom. Be the one to bring the love, be the example of one set free in Christ. This world needs more of Him through you.
He died and was resurrected about 2,000 years ago for you, for love. Rejoice in His love today. Rejoice that His love conquers death. If He can conquer death He can conquer absolutely anything in your life. Rejoice that in Him you can find refuge—you do not have to fear because you serve a God who has conquered the most feared thing in this life—suffering and death…for you.
“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.’” Psalm 91:2
My prayer is that we (myself included!) can understand the depth of His love and walk more fully and completely in the power that we’ve been given as His children through His death and resurrection. Those who are in Christ hold the same power that raised Jesus from the dead 2,000 years ago! Let’s start walking in that truth.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”
Ephesians 1:18-23
Happy Easter! 🙂
