I just finished reading an article about how our human attention spans nowadays are on the rapid decline to only 8 seconds…especially if the odds aren't in your favor…as in you have ADHD or some other highly diagnosed condition. No worries though, I have it too. :] So this blog is a quick attempt to tell you who I am RIGHT NOW as I sit in front of my computer this very evening. I hope I never stay the same person as I am tonight. I want to always be in a state of growth. And yes, this means going through some growing pains. And I'm ok with that.
- My mother is one of my best friends.
- I have 13 tattoos and a few piercings. Don't judge a book by it's cover. I love me some Jesus and no, I'm not a hairstylist (if I could have 5 bucks every time someone asked me this question…I'm an RN, soon to be missionary, God willing!)
- I love to break all the proper rules of how to use the ellipses……………….it gives you a moment to reflect……………see?……..they are great………..
- I dream big about how God will use me as his hands and feet.
- I have a globe that I keep in my room and look at daily. At night I can turn on the light and it glows. I am baffled that God made such an expansive universe. Do you ever think about the fact that all the languages of the earth could be explained by the story in the Bible about the Tower of Babel? Crazzzzy.
- I quiz my Mom regularly now about world geography. Despite her comments about how "not everyone wants to travel the world, honey", I believe everyone DOES want to travel the world…they just don't know it yet.
- I'm currently in belly dancing class.
- This is one of my favorite quotes: " We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased". <—-Amen to that.
- I love to sing and dance.
- This is my first blog. EVER.
- If you're going to be my boyfriend, you have to have pretty teeth. It's a prerequisite. (And love Jesus, of course.) But I'm not allowed to date until Nov '13 anyways now. [World Race rules. And I get it.] So no worries for now.
- I feel more comfortable when I'm the only white person around. I feel more "blended in and at home" even though I stick out like a sore thumb. I love me some foreign peeps.
- For the past decade, I have been trying to figure out what career I can go into that incorporates language, travel, and immersion in another culture, while fighting for justice. (I have a heart for justice.) I thought this meant obtaining an additional degree in International Studies, Anthropology or Global Studies. Little did I know that God placed all these desires in my heart because he was calling me into missions. Wow. Took me YEARS to figure this out. I love God's sense of humor.
- I usually tear up if I'm singing a song and it talks about God's heart for the nations.
- I love that the Bible is usually exactly opposite of how culture thinks and exists. God has a wild imagination. Do you realize he was Middle Eastern and not white? (I just realized this about 2 yrs ago.)
- I ALWAYS mess up idioms and sayings like, "You have a memory like an elephant", "The pot calling the kettle black", "Going the whole 9 yards". This stuff is NOT common knowledge. I don't know if I missed a developmental marker in my life, but I don't get these sayings. So when I ask you to clarify, don't be surprised.
- I have 1 Corinthians 13 tattooed on me. Read it. It's such truth.
- I believe after The after World Race, my life will never be the same.
- I hope to change the course of generations in my family by and through one person: JESUS. He holds me together and I'm still learning about his character.
