I get that question All.The.Time. I guess I've been a little too effective with my goodbyes that people think I'm walking out the door right now. So I figured a nice logistics blog would be good to answer the questions circulating. And because I love them…BULLET POINTS!
- Wait, you're still here?? When do you leave?
Actually crazily enough on Wednesday I leave for TN to visit some dear friends before training camp and then training camp starts on Saturday in Copperhill, TN. Saturday. Less than a week. Ummmmm ok. All kinds of good things (and probably somewhat scary things i.e. white water rafting) happen at training camp like I'll finally meet these crazy people I'll be traveling with after months of facebook getting to know you. Weird. It's also when they put the teams together so I'll know the other people I will live with 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 11 months. Awesome. AND they finalize the roster so they can buy plane tickets to our first stop PERU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I should know my launch date the first week of June. Super excited!!!!
- Are you all packed and ready to go?
My apartment is a scary, scary mess and I don't want to talk about it. Let's just pretend I'm way further ahead then I really am.
- Are you really selling all your stuff?
YES!!!! (ok that's somewhat of a lie. One of my goals for life is to collect every Nancy Drew book used and I have about 15 of them, if I sell them that defeats my life goal, I think God's ok with me keeping them. Also my rubber ducky collection, again I think God's ok with that).
- Can I buy…..???
Yes you can my friend! If you live in the Quincy area there will be a yard sale soonish….finding a date is proving to be a bit difficult. Also I'll be putting some things on craigslist and if you just know what I own and want to email me for it I'm down with that too. I HAVE WAY TOO MUCH STUFF!!!! PLEASE BUY STUFF!!!!!
- How's the fundraising going?
Slow and steady wins the race! Since my last update post I received an additional $265 which brings me to $12,265 (thanks friends!). Only $3235 left to go! So July is coming really quick. If you keep thinking, oh yeah, I want to give to Melissa's trip then I would encourage you to click on that cute little button on the left that says support me please. All the directions you need are there! That's $71 dollars a day or 64 people giving $25 this month and next month, or 16 people giving $25 a month until my final deadline in December. So many options, so little time! ALSO THERE'S STILL TIME TO BUY A TSHIRT!!!!!!
- What's your biggest fear?
Well I've got two.
1) (that's right, bullet point inside a bullet point, amazing!) that my team won't get along (or rather that they won't get a long with me)
2) that I'll give up. It'll get too hard and I'll come home. I don't want to. I want to be there the whole time serving and growing but this is also so far out of my normal life. It's terrifying. I'm afraid I won't trust/depend on God enough and let's be honest that's the only way I'm doing this crazy thing! Prayers for that specifically would be greatly appreciated!
Well friends, once again a ridiculously long blog and no pictures. I promise when I'm on the race there will be pictures! Pictures of cute kids, adorable old ladies, scary animals and maybe a bathroom or two, I'd hate for you to miss out on that! 🙂
