So I’m Melissa Lowell and I’m going on the July 2011 trip of
the World Race! I’m super excited about this opportunity to serve, to
change and to seek. But first here’s some basic background information:
- I have a BA in English
Literature (not the most useful degree ever but loved it!) from Eastern
Nazarene College just outside of Boston. I am also pushing like
crazy to finish my MA in Secondary Ed. /English this May. - I’m from Maine and when I was
a teenager I couldn’t wait to get out and experience something so much
bigger than my small town. I never thought I would miss it but it’s
been 11 years since I’ve lived there and I miss it terribly. - I’m an only child and spent
most of my life with just my beautiful, amazingly fun mother. A few
years ago she married this great guy Tom and even though I never know how
to introduce him (step-dad is awkward and mom’s husband sounds creepy) he
has been a great addition to our family. - My home church is the
Salvation Army and people are always super surprised thinking it’s just a
social service organization. It’s not, it’s a church and it’s a
pretty awesome church if I do say so myself! - I have worked for the past 4
years as a Resident Director for first year women and worked as the
Student Government Liaison. This is my final year and that’s
weird/hard/good. I arrived on the ENC campus as a freshman in Aug 99
and just never left. Now not only am I leaving but going as far away
as humanly possible. Weird. - I turn 30 in less than 2
months and that’s crazy. I live
with 18 year olds, I don’t feel 30. Weird.
- My friends–they are awesome, supportive and keep me accountable. Many have moved away and/or gotten married/had babies but that has not diminished our affection. Friendship knows no distance I always say!
- Bullet points! I try to use them in everyday communication
- Reading–especially teen fiction, I should be embarrassed I know!
- Singing–I’m not particularly good but I love to do it anyways!
- “It Is Well With My Soul”–best hymn ever!
- Fall–pumpkins, apples, scarves and jeans every day! Yes!
- Hangman–it’s cheesy but I’m super intense about it.
- Road trips! I love just getting in the car and going.
Well I’m sure my blogs will reveal way more about me, but here’s a start! Hope you enjoyed reading it!
