center city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the past 5 days. This
is our last stop, before we head to Pangkor Island for month 4
debrief. We are staying in a hostel in the middle of Chinatown.
Let me just paint a picture for you about what our stay has been
like.
to share one dorm-style room. We each got our own beds, and any
time you get an actual bed on the race it is cause to celebrate.
However, the sheets looked about 50 years old and we found
several hairs on them. So we decided to put our deflated sleeping
pads on top and then our sleeping bags on top of that. The first
night, we had a random man come to the door. We thought it was our
guys, but we opened the door to a short, possibly drunk, man with
a big mustache. I didn’t have my contacts on, but I was
closest to Alyssa (who had opened the door). I was ready to tackle
him if I had to.
hanging on the edge of my bed frame, it must have been left there by
the previous backpacker. Joel takes a plastic bag puts it over his
hand, and removes it. Turns out it is a pair of men’s thongs.
Gross!!! I was horrified, and we were booked for the whole week,
so I had to keep sleeping on this bed. LOL
was supposed to be the original rooms we booked, but weren’t ready at
the time. As the girls from team Rooted Freedom get into their room,
they find a used, butterfly needle on the stool next to
the nightstand. Is this place for real? Joel and Alyssa found
a window on our floor, and went to admire the nice view, turns out
there were used condoms all over the outside of the window.
Some view huh?
new treasure to find. We always wake up to the fresh smell of
cigarettes in the morning, and sometimes some really bad reefer
that smells like a skunk. Joel said he wished he had a
black-light so he could shine it on the walls. Hahaha! I don’t want
to know what’s on them. The best part is the mice, the obese
hamster named George, the swimming turtles, one large fish,
and a monkey that wears a diaper and only comes out at night.
These are all of the owner’s pets…oh I forgot to mention the owner.
He is an older Asian gentleman, with a blond mullet, and
piercings all up and down the rim of his ear. If I wasn’t a paying
customer, I would not want to get on his bad side. At least, he is
nice to us.
yesterday. As I stepped outside of the hostel onto the clean
sidewalks of Chinatown (huge understatement), it was pouring
down rain. We are in the middle of monsoon season. Thunder was
rumbling and lightning was cracking everywhere. The only spot we
could walk in was full of water, floating dead roaches, and
sewage. I found a little ledge against the wall to climb on so we
wouldn’t have to walk through the water. One of those metal coverings
was pulled down, the ones that business storefronts use to prevent
break-ins. As I neared the end of the ledge, I see a TAIL coiling
back and forth. A RAT was on the other side of the metal
covering. I screamed and Alyssa saved me and helped me make it to the
other side, This was the 4th rat I have seen this month.
relieved and a little sad to leave. Somehow this place has been home.
I guess since the earth is the Lord’s and I am His…home is
everywhere.
P.S.
I
go home in 10 days!!
I
still need $4,529.77 to be fully funded.
Please
pray and consider supporting me financially.
If
I am fully funded, I will be able to come back on the field and pour
into my squad, during month 8 and month 11 debrief.
Thank
you so much for partnering with me, in guiding these awesome people,
into transformation and freedom.
