I’ve just come back from spending a week at a Christian Music Camp with the most amazing kids! I was councilor, theory teacher, Bible leader, friend and “camp mom” for 8 days. It was such a blessing to spend that time with the kids. But those 8 days were not just days of growing for the kids, it was also a time of growth for me. I grew in my leadership abilities, gained knowledge and grew closer to God through faculty devotions and worship times. I also realized that because I am going on the World Race, I will not be able to attend music camp next summer…that was a hard one to swallow! Having to tell the director and other faculty was difficult as well. However, I know they understand and are proud of me and have told me they will be following my journey (which is a blessing all in itself).
Since camp, I have realized how much preparing for the Race is not just a financial endeavor, or just buying gear- although both of those things are very important. Preparing for the Race is also a heart, mind, and soul thing…getting closer to God and strengthening my relationship with Him. It also requires becoming closer to other people on a spiritual level, creating a connection so that they will be there through prayer throughout my journey, each month being assured that I am in someones prayers, whether or not I know who is praying does not matter. This preparation also requires that I come to terms with the things I will miss while I am away, realizing that life will go on without me and things may change. The most important things will not change though- love, relationships and family and friends. So, here I am, preparing for a year of life in which anything can happen!
Joshua 1:9 This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
