Make sure you read Part 1 first!! It’ll help a bit:)
Part 2.
Here we go.
So in my last blog I addressed who we really are as born again believers.
That we are carriers of the Holy Spirit, a temple for the Lord to dwell in.
The arc of the covenant.
But once we have gotten that down pat, what does that mean for us?
What is our response? Our purpose? Our task?
From what I’ve learned on the race, I could be wrong but I think once we know our true identity, the Lord wants us…
To not just have an inward experience but produce an outward effect.
I have come to find that for me personally, it’s easy to make my faith more inner focused, concentrated on how much more I can filled, how much deeper I can go and how much I have to go to experience Him fully. And if I had to guess, I think many in the church could say the same thing. That we can easily start living from experience to experience, focusing solely on where we are in our relationship with Him. Putting on blinders and forgetting the rest of the world around us as we learn to walk better in the authority He has given us.
But the Lord doesn’t just call us sons and daughters to just sit and bask in our titles. He tells us to be like Jesus, to do as Jesus did through the Holy Spirit which He has given us.
To preach the gospel, share His name through the nations, heal the sick and feed the hungry.
When Jesus sent out the twelve, he tells them these instructions…
“Go to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” Matthew 10:6
He wants us to be active.
To go out and tell the good news.
To reach the masses.
Through words. Through actions. Through love.
For our inner change to produce an outward change.
There is a reason Jesus gave his disciples The Great Commission as his last instructions to them.
“Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” Matthew 28:18-20
The disciples had Jesus.
We have His Spirit in us.
To lead us, to speak through us, to do powerful work through us and to be with us wherever we go as we preach His name to the ends of the earth.
As a son and daughter, as a carrier, this is our duty: to carry His Spirit to His people.
By feeding.
By clothing.
By healing
By preaching.
By loving.
After the disciples received the Holy Spirit and became carriers after Jesus’ ascension, incredible things occurred. The book of Acts depicts stories of miracles, signs and wonders. This is because when the Holy Spirit comes and produces an inner experience, you can’t help but have an outward effect.
Whether it be in your own community, in your own town, or whether it be across the world, our purpose is to go out, bringing heaven to earth. To preach His name with love and generosity, walking in the authority He has given us.
Let us be the generation that allows our inner change to produce an outward movement.
We are settling for Christianity that revolves around catering for ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves. – David Platt
