The Lord speaks to us in the sweetest of times and ways. In moments when we just need His love and affirmation, He is willing to give us a little nudging reminder of who He is and how much He loves us. The other night we were worshipping together (the whole squad is currently here in Penang for debrief), and the Lord spoke to me through the lyrics of one of the songs. We were singing “It Is Well”, by Kristin Dimarco, and as we sang the words “the wind and waves, they know His name…” the power of those words hit me like they never have before.
The wind and waves, they know His name.
That within itself is powerful, that the wind and the waves know God’s name. but not only do they know his name, HE knows my name. Then that made me think some more… yeah, God knows my name, and He calls me by name! Which is so amazing to think about I can barely even believe it, but then I kept thinking… Megan. My name is Megan. Whenever I have thought about Jesus “calling me by name”, I have always imagined Him calling out to me and calling me Megan. Of course, because that’s my name! That’s when it hit me… Megan is my earthly name. Megan is the name that my parents gave me. My parents made me, and my mom gave birth to me, but God… he didn’t just make me, he created me. And although he knows my earthly name that my parents gave me, He has his own names for me! He has his own names for each of us. The names that he has for me, the names that he calls me, might be different in each situation, or each season of my life. But names that I know that HE calls me, are loved, cherished, adored, never forsaken, beautiful, capable, powerful! And wow… that had never hit me so hard before in my life. I used to think that it was intimate of the Lord to call me by name and hear him calling me Megan… but I am his daughter and He knows me by names that he has given me. And those names describe who I am, and what He truly sees me to be in His eyes. What are names that He calls out to you?
This is just a small revelation that he has given me recently. Maybe you all have thought of that before… the whole earthly, and God- given names that he has for us, but honestly I never had before! So, I just wanted to share what he has been showing me. This revelation has already transformed how I am able to see myself and realize the sheer adoration that the Lord has for me, and how he wants me to have that kind of love for myself.
