So in the spirit of 11 on 11, I thought I would give 11 quick things to know about me and the World Race:
1. I just graduated from Ohio State with a degree in International Studies, focusing on development. So I am extremely excited my studies with hands on experience in the countries I will be traveling to.
2. I feel led to missions because I have seen the poverty and brokenness of this world. I feel the only way to alleviate the world of pain and suffering is through Jesus Christ.
3. As a Christian, I believe it is my duty to try and live like Jesus. I want to work with the unclean, the sick, children, prostitutes, people who simply need love the most. Matthew 10:5-8 says:
"Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this message: 'The Kingdom of Heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
4. I want to experience the world for what it is and learn to embrace people for who they are.
5. I am excited to go to the three East African countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda) because I have always had an interest there. I went to Uganda last summer and I took Swahili in college. Hopefully I can utilize it in Kenya!
6. One thing I'm nervous about is being put into an uncomfortable situation where I don't know what to say or do (probably a 100% chance of this happening). I tend to second guess myself a lot so I know this will be a challenging area to overcome.
7. I am someone who is always looking for adventure, so since this trip is about spreading the love of Jesus and adventure it's a win win! I hope I can ride an elephant and go white water rafting!
8. When I was in Uganda, I got used to using the bathroom wherever I wanted, even if it was on the side of the rode. This is something you definitely cannot get away with in the States, so I am exited to do that again… and it be acceptable.
9. I will be living out of a backpack for 11 months. The comforts of my American lifestyle will be ripped away. This will probably be one of the most challenging but best aspects of the trip.
10. Being in community with other Christians is extremely important to me. I will be living with a small group of people for these 11 months, so I am ready to be continually challenged and encouraged by the people surrounding me.
11. I hope to go into this trip with the approach that we are all equal in God's eyes. I will probably learn more from the people we are helping that they will from me. I pray that God humbles my heart and changes my perceptions of Him and the people living in the countries we are serving.
Well, on this lovely June 11, I hope you these 11 facts have helped you get to know more about me and my decision to partake of this journey to 11 countries in 11 months. Please help me reach my goal by donating $11!
