Thailand. It’s incredible. Seriously so beautiful.

Before coming to Thailand, I had certain expectations in terms of where we would be… I figured it would be the city of Bangkok or a suburb of it at least. Well imagine my surprise when we left orientation in Bangkok and just kept driving. Past the city, past another city, past more cities, into the farmlands jungle and up the mountains. Now my team and I reside on a farm in the jungle that’s an hour away from Kanchanaburi City and half an hour away from the nearest WiFi hotspot. It took some getting use to at first, but now I couldn’t be happier with our new home and amazing host family.

This is a list of sentences that have become completely normal here on the farm, but quite obscure anywhere else…

Sam’s chasing a chicken

I’m on my third banana in an hour

Make sure to tuck in the bug net well, I just saw a beetle

Oh that’s a lizard? I thought it was a snake

I’ll show you how to confuse a chicken

Oh there’s only 3 lizards? I thought there were 4

Guys! The huge spider outside is still there!

Did you put fish oil in my scrambled eggs?

Is this beef or cows blood?

How do you flush the squatty potty?

This is only your second shower today?

Is that a rock or ball in Mai’s mouth?

I have no idea what I just ate

What is that? I don’t know but it’s good

Bring a sleeping bag for the back of the truck- the wind gets cold

Are you sleeping in your hammock or tent tonight?

Does the fan have a higher setting?

Make sure you zip your bags so the lizards and spiders don’t hide in there

We only have paper towels for toilet paper, so rip off half every time

My legs are sore from using the squatty potty

I can’t wait for a cold shower… It’s so hot.

If the rooster is too loud in the morning, just kill it

Is that a school? No it’s a temple

The monks are chanting again

Do you want to ride elephants or swim in waterfalls?

Hello? Who’s there? Oh it’s just a chicken.

I have lice. Grace has lice. Mackenzie has lice…. Let’s watch movies and pick lice

There are so many more I could write, but I think you get the idea… things are a little different here is Thailand, but God is doing some really incredible things in the hearts of everyone on my team, as well as our amazing host family. Please pray for them and the ministry we’re doing here.
