I have always looked up to people who are prayer warriors and I never thought I would call myself one. I have been learning day by day what it looks like to be a prayer warrior. This month I am working with the Christian Light Foundation in Los Guido, Costa Rica. Los Guido is a very dangerous slum overtaken by darkness. You can see the fear in the children’s eyes as they walk down the street. We hear gun shots at night as we gather together for worship. Drug dealers roam the streets. Although there is so much darkness the light of Jesus shines brighter and consumes the darkness.

This month all forty members of my squad are at the same ministry location. Some teams have been working at the feeding center, other teams have been working inside the schools, and my team is the prayer team. Everyday we pray for our squads ministry with the Christian Light Foundation and for the city of Los Guido for hours crying out to God and listening to His voice. Prayer is so powerful! I have seen if first hand numerous times this month.

My team and I partnered with another team and did a prayer walk to a school no missionaries have ever entered before. Our contact Mark said it would be the most difficult school to get into. As we began to pray over the school I saw a drug dealer on the corner with a scary pit bull on a chain. A few minutes later I saw a drug deal happen then and there. We continued to pray over the school, then out of no where 30 children who went to the school flooded the area around us. As the kids surrounded us the drug dealer with a pit bull left the area. When the presence of God floods an area it draws people in and causes the darkness to flee. The kids where drawn to us because Jesus was present. These children did not have fear in their eyes, but their eyes where filled with joy. Jesus changed the atmosphere through our prayers. The other team told the kids they would be inside the school later that week. The other team didn’t have permission to go in the school at this point, but we had faith that God would open doors for them to enter the school. Later that week the team entered the school with no problems at all! Praise God! God is moving and working in Los Guido!

I would like to thank all my prayer warriors back home who have been praying for my team and I. Your prayers are bringing the light of Jesus into some of the darkest areas of Costa Rica! Please continue to pray for the light of Jesus to engulf the darkness in this city. I couldn’t do this without you prayer warriors, you are a crucial part of my team!
